Thanks for the comments Jerry, Curt, Philip, Rick, Mike and Kyle, your comments are very much appreciated.

It's seems "Necessity is the mother of invention".  I needed some combination of items that added up to 1-1/8" thick.  I'm happy with the result.  Now that the base support is dried, it is time to install the backdrop material.

Going to call this update. . . . . . . .

Preparing the Canvas - Part 1

Staging151.jpg

The material used for the backdrop is 0.060 styrene signs that was used for advertising in buses (If your wondering how long I've had these the ad was copyright 2007). The overall size of the sign was 70" long x 21" high.  The height of the styrene needed to be cut to 13" high.

I used the left over piece to mark the location where the slots need to be cut for the shelf brackets.

Staging153.jpg

Once the slots were cut into the backdrop it was time to install the first section of the backdrop.  While the narrow strip took took the tight curve of the corner the actual backdrop piece decided to give some push back.  I had to added a "stop" at the corned to hold the end of the backdrop until the adhesive set.

Staging154.jpg

The next day the second section of backdrop installed.  I also had to add a "stop" to hold the backdrop in place until the adhesive set.

Tune into Part 2 to see how the rest of the backdrop went down.

Preparing the Canvas - Part 2

There is one more piece of background to install.  To make it interesting there are angles and cut-outs involved.  :o

Staging155.jpg

With the last piece being an odd shape a template was required, of course a template would be involved.  Those who know me I'll use any excuse to make a template for something.  ;D I prefer the template method to the trial and error method, although the trial and error method can produce some interesting results.  ::)

Staging156.jpg

The styrene backdrop cut to the template.  It seems that no matter how accurate one makes a template there are always some minor twicks to be made.

Staging157.jpg

The third piece installed.  Don't worry about the "lines" in the photo.  In my excitement to install the backdrop I installed the adhesive on the wrong side of the backdrop.  :o :-[    I did my best to scrape it off and applied the adhesive to the proper side of the backdrop.  Once sanded and painted no one will never know.  ;D

Thanks for looking in.

Ron, nice job of cutting the backdrop to fit.
That last piece looks a little tricky but I know you'll get it right.

Jerry
