I guess this section is good as any to post this for you DCC operators. A U-tuber I follow has an interesting video for a device for seeing how fast your engine are running. The video will explain everything you need to know about this device.

I have this speed measure device, which is no longer made.   I had hoped to show my grandson to run the trains at more typical speeds, but he still likes to run them as fast as possible.

So far, I've gotten by with counting cars as they pass a point. One full-size passenger car per second is ~60 MPH, one 40' boxcar is ~30 MPH

Interesting. I have one on those that Jeff showed. The speed varies from loco to loco even if both are set using the same throttle speed.

I never use it now. I let my eyes tell me what looks normal for a train on the layout.
