I guess this section is good as any to post this for you DCC operators. A U-tuber I follow has an interesting video for a device for seeing how fast your engine are running. The video will explain everything you need to know about this device.

I have this speed measure device, which is no longer made.   I had hoped to show my grandson to run the trains at more typical speeds, but he still likes to run them as fast as possible.   ;D

So far, I've gotten by with counting cars as they pass a point. One full-size passenger car per second is ~60 MPH, one 40' boxcar is ~30 MPH

Interesting. I have one on those that Jeff showed. The speed varies from loco to loco even if both are set using the same throttle speed.

I never use it now. I let my eyes tell me what looks normal for a train on the layout.
