....I posted a pic of one of our Newport RI displays the other day, and received an email from our own EricQuebec offering me his extensive drawings that he had done when building the Red Parrot....a famous building in Newport RI....with this offer Eric has saved me many hours of research and drawing of the building that has been on our "Kit List" of Newport buildings.....so I am producing a kit named after his dad and himself....A. Monnette Clock Makers, also inspired by a building in Newport.....needless to say, our Kits, based on actual buildings in Newport are very popular.....the first pic is a of the actual building in Newport....

....so now I'll get the first draft of the drawing done and get some feel for the storefront....Newport is a treasure trove of unique architecture...and I strive to get pretty close to the original while keeping it a relatively simple build...so, as you go thru the pics you'll see the preliminary drawings, and a test build of the store front......

Eric, I would ask you to jump in at any time to make any suggestions while I'm developing this kit....and that offer stands to everyone....(except Slim.. :o :o )

...now I need to make sure I like the size of the building...I try to keep the buildings similar in size to the original, but so many things make that a bit tough sometimes....so I build one to what I think it should be and set it in place where I want it to be on my shelf layout....(notice you don't see many trains...??...more about that later...)  I plan to place A. Monnette beside of J.D. Richardson (another kit of ours from Newport) and Doug's Ideal Hosiery....I am pleased with the size, but not with the storefront.....back to the drawing board....

Hi jeff,

The size is good and I think his place between this 2 building is simply perfect.
For the storefront, I don't know.... May be a single door, or slightly recessed door can be made a difference and add a little bit more relief.

It's neat to follow a kit's development...following along! 👍🏻

Was thinking quite the same , and now together with Darryl's Seabiscuits we can follow 2 developments of kits, love it.

I'm also with Eric , the double door is a bit too much for the width of the building.
I love photo's, don't we all.

Jeff,

I really like the look of this kit and structure. From my own perspective and in agreement with Eric,  I think a center recessed door would do the trick.

The single door sounds like a good idea.  Maybe an awning as well.

It looks like I need to get back to work and earn some more EXPO dollars.  Looks good Jeff.  It will look even better with Slim's lighting kit. ;)

...a little time to redo the front entrance...thanks for the suggestions....so it's a single laser-cut door now....which actually makes for easier multi color painting.....

jlgrove

...and here are the before and after....and the sidewalk to see how it will look getting to the "finish"....I like how the sidelights leading back to the door will be at a slight angle following prototypical applications....I'm content with the overall look of the new storefront...I considered the door centered, but I wanted to stay closer to the original Newport building which has the door to the left....I think I'm happy enough to finish up the balance of the structure and do another cut for another test build......

Slim needs to jump in here for a tutorial to light this thing.....I'll send him one to do so.... 8)

That blue is a bit too strong for a model, but I like the lines of the kit.

You need to think about an interior, that would set it apart from much of what's on the market.  Maybe a combination of 3d pieces and photos?
