Model Railroading (or related) podcasts?

Hello ...figured this deserved its own thread...so people might see it and pitch in.

Anybody find any good Modeling podcasts to listen to?

I used to listen to Scott Mason's with Jimmy and Doug and I really miss it. Doug, especially, always had some valuable insights and suggestions. His short lived solo podcast kind of died on the vine - which I completely get...you kind of have to be a bit of a blowhard to fill all that dead air and keep it moving, so I never fault someone for just not being wired for that. Scott's podcast actually got me to this (its predecessor)forum, to multiple Craftsman Structure Shows, to the home layouts of my modeling heroes, to dinner with some of them, and, ironically, to meet a modeling group right in my little hometown. Ultimately, it introduced me to an entirely new level of modeling and helped me gain the confidence to believe I can build stuff like I've seen in the magazines and often better. Nowadays, I don't miss a NNGC and I don't allow myself to do crappy work...it all comes back to a podcast.

I can't find any I really like at present...I won't be critical of any because everyone has different tastes, but I would love some submissions and I presume others might too.

A bunch of the narrow gauge videos that randomly pop up.

The latest was this one featuring Sam Syzdek's HO. Not NG be he is a great modeler.

Well Cuse, great idea for a thread.

I have a sub to the New Tracks Modeling zoom. I was talked into it by Rich, aka-Penman. I think I've been subscribed with them for over two years. I've presented a couple of times. At times I find it very boring content because it's the same thing over and over again just on a different project. How many ways are there to construct a building, how many different ways are there to weather a building? Just to name a couple of subjects that seem to get talked about over and over again. Seems to me many of the modelers on the show don't have a complete toolbox for modeling. Mention that you have a lath or mill and make your own parts, somebody will say why don't you use a 3D printer? When you explain why you can see some don't get it. I'll be presenting on Feb. 26. in the "My Build segment. It's a scratch-built critter shed. I use a router/engraver CNC machine to make the parts. You can watch it on U-tube either during the show or later.

I'm also signed up NNGC zoom. I think that's a great zoom show. They don't limit the modelers to a 15-minute segment like they do on NTM.

I think one of the problems with a podcast is how long can the material last you want to talk about. At first, I'm sure there is lots of material to talk about but what about in a year or two? I think a podcast needs a more diverse subject matter than just kits and weathering. I've noticed that many modelers are reluctant to work with metal or metal kits and soldering. Not much is talked about rolling stock and scratch building it, modifying it or repairing it. Many are afraid of taking apart a locomotive to see why it doesn't run.

Having experienced both NTM and NNGC I have to say that once a week seems too much and once a month is a little too far apart. I would think twice a month would be sufficient. My question would be how much you want to present in one show and how long per presentation. I realize this would be the most difficult thing to do.

Not knowing the ins and outs of setting up a podcast, what would be involved? Or would a zoom meeting work better?

Just my thoughts. Nothing concrete.

Quick edit: I watch Philip's video link. In my opinion it's to much eye candy. I subscribed to Dave Meeks' video and fine them very interesting.

Section Section Podcast is IMOO very good 90% of the time. Andy is a great host and  Mike the sidekick is good. Great topics but do have a tendency to stay too long. Great guests and both are good modelers. Every other Thursday is showtime, I catch them live on You Tube

With no sponsors they are free to be honest

Interesting topic glad it was brought up. I listen to a father son podcast/ sometimes video from the Wiley's:

It is like being part of a BS group listening to modeling, life, and whatever. They often have people on like Jason Jenson or Doug Fousgale on. It is light, and fun to listen to while working on the layout. They publish these days about once a month.

I walk a lot and am in the car a lot for work, so I'm not as likely to be a regular for YouTube stuff...although I like everything Dave Meek does and definitely find myself going down the video rabbit hole regularly.

There really is only so much you can talk about, especially without visuals...but not to ask is not to receive.

C'mon Jimmy, get the band back together...I was there for the Bee suit  ;D

Everything Doug shares is interesting to me, but he doesn't say anything if he has nothing to say - which is a tough way to build a podcast  :-X I get it  - I'm sure I'd get boring before the intro is over.

Keep the suggestions coming

Ok lets see. You caught me before coffee this morning so here are some more channels I occasionally listen to.

I don't follow Podcasts, but do follow a lot of modellers on Youtube.  Some railroad and some military related.

Dave Meek's Thunder Mesa Railroad videos on youtube are a must.
I have been following Dave since he first started over on RRL with a thread, then he went to Youtube.
I'm a subscriber and Patreon member.

The back slapping blowharditry of prior entities sent me away from pods. I do enjoy some specific topics on You Tube. Larry the Dcc Guy has good info if it's something I need/want to know. George the Soundtrack guy is good content when presenting General information

I find i get way too much from U-toob that isn't really helpful, just bounces around in my hollow head.

My nickel in the snowbank...(ain't no grass here) :o

I will put in a plug for the Around The Layout podcast. Good guests and good topics.

Spotted this thread that "cuse" started and although these are not all podcasts think that you may find some of these you tube links neat to watch, so here are a few that I have book marked at my end. Hope you find them worthy.
Let me know what you think. Many have several neat layout tours included.
