Moving on.

I stumbled upon a fairly rectangular piece of white foam recently. I decided to use that as the diorama base. I first needed to trim it.

I used this hot wire foam cutting gizmo I bought with a coupon at Michaels a long time ago. I know, white foam is a big NO NO! But hey, this is a challenge after all.

This is how I will likely orient the buildings on the foam base.

More as it develops.

Moving on.

So I learned a trick a while ago when building a South River Modelworks kit. You can build up a foundation for your kits by using strip wood to outline the perimeter of the structures. I decided to do something similar here. Except, I did not use strip wood. I instead used cardboard from a Christmas gift box. You know the boxes the department stores give you for gift wrapping, one of those.

Here is how I cut out the foundation from the cardboard box and tested the kit's included task board base for the structures. This way when I begin to slather landscaping on the diorama base, the structures already have a foundation on the diorama base.

Above is what I ended up after laminating only two layers of cardboard for the foundation. I decided to add a third layer of cardboard for the foundation and ended up with this.

I have to leave clues for myself or I will get confused later on. Thus, I labeled the front and back of the diorama  ;D   It would be tragic if I glued the buildings wrong on their foundations.

More as it develops.

Looking good! You will find a lot of labels hidden underneath my builds, too.
