The next build for the town of Mauston will be the Milw. Rd. station. Here is a picture from 1912.

I will be modeling it in the 1950's, the only change is the door on the right side of this picture has been changed to a window. It will be basicly a basswood sheet box with Rusty Stumps brick sheet added. Using Tichy doors and windows and Rusty Stumps large diamond shingles for the roof. Hope you all follow along!
I'm in, Andy. This one will be interesting ;)
I will be following along with this
Jim
Interesting looking station. Looks like it has a second floor. Large station for a small town. I'll be following to see your build.
Jeff
Andy,
I'll be in on this one also.
Tom ;D
Thanks guy's for signing on.
Now I don't want anyone to get to excited but the wall blanks are cut from 1/16 thick basswood sheet.

I hate it when that happens!
The right sized windows arrived today, so back to the build.
I have all the doors and windows laid out, tape on the back and ready for cutting. I didn't think this was exciting enough for a picture.
Andy,
What color will the brick be painted ? It seems like a light color in the photo....Is the prototype station still standing ?

Tom,
The station started out cream colored brick and dark brown trim. Later it was painted light gray with dark gray trim. I just have to figure out when they changed the colors to match my timeline. The prototype is long gone.

Andy, Have not been to this place to eat yet, but the outside window arches and the unique attic window detail shows up well on this link. It's the Freighthouse Restaurant in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Click on the photo that says "see outside". Hope this helps.

Tom, thanks for the link, been in there a few times and by there a lot. La Crosse is the big shopping spot close to us, about an hour west.
Doors and windows are cut out

Will be bracing walls for the next few days.
Hi andy:
looks like you are off to a good start. Keep the photos coming as I will be following along.
Karl
Yep, what Karl said.
Tom ;D
I sure will guy's, one tomorrow.
I have the walls all braced.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520station%2FDSCF1921.jpg&hash=e4e6be56fd1f15947f83e7fbf802d578edb0f775)
next to paint the inside and add the brick sheet.
I painted the inside black and gave the brick sheet a coat of paint, it helps keep the bricks from falling off when cutting. Next step will be to get the brick on the walls. Sorry no picture, I didn't think it was exciting enough.
I painted the brick sheet white and stuck it on the wall sections.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520station%2FDSCF1924.jpg&hash=b4240ca933e22d343f2fecdb34a292ce3e42f53b)
now to recut the openings.
The openings are all recut.

Thanks Karl, I am working on the fancy brick work now.
All the window and door headers and sills are on, also gave it another shot of paint. now to paint the inside of the bump out and then windows and doors.

Put in all the doors and windows. Now to get the glass in and then glue the bump out on.

Hi Andy,

Steve, It is a laser cut, self stick sheet from Rusty Stumps.
Andy,
Great start and the station is looking fantastic. I'll have to give the brick sheet thing a go one of these days.
Tom ;D
Tom, I know most on here like the plaster or cast brick walls. To me this is just as good and a lot quicker.
Glass all in and added some shades. Also the bump out is glued on. Now for some roofing.

Hey Jeff, thanks for stopping in.
Andy,
Checked the Rusty Stumps website out tonight. See the brick material comes in .016 and .022 thickness and the brick material is either available on RC board, card stock or plywood. Do you have any preferences ? Which ones are you using on this station build ? Always learning something everyday... ;)

Tom, I use the .016 thick rc board with the adhesive back
The shingles arrived and I finished the roofing. Still to do are the double chimney's, signs and the roof braces

Hi Andy,
The shingles look very good Andy.
Hey AK - Always love your work and appreciate the way your SBS makes the scratchbuilding process seem "easy".
I really like the station, and was inspired to finally try out a scratch with bricks.

You mentioned the step above NOT being "exciting", but I'm actually very excited to know how you got a firm bond between the walls and brick sheet. (Mine seems to peel off with moderate pressure)
Would also love any guidance you have for making seamless corners in brick. Thanks for the expert tips!

Kingred, first of all thanks for stopping in. As you seen in the posting's that the brick sheet is stuck on 1/16 thick basswood sheet. All I do is make sure the sheet is very clean with no dust. After I stick the brick to it I weight it over night. I have never had a problem with the brick sheet peeling off, once and awhile I might loose a brick or to when cutting. As for the corners, after the basic building is built I use a premixed joint compound, I smooth it into the seam, when it dries I lightly sand it and paint it the brick color. I haven't done it yet to the station but will be shortly. Hope this helps
Thanks AK -
What did you use for adhesive?

I use the brick sheets from Rusty Stump, they come with adhesive back, it's like peel and stick. He uses a very good glue, once it is on an sets up you will wreck the wall trying to get it off
The chimney's and station sign are on. Left to do are the 20 roof supports.
(https://modelersforum.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi51.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Ff373%2Fsteammodeler%2FAndy%2520folder%2FMauston%2520station%2FDSCF1936.jpg&hash=1ced4d96f8a662fafa7d1955bd53639e9cff41bc)
Nice job on the build Andy.
Thanks Jim, looking at the photo I see I still have to blend those corners.
Painted a few sticks of 1/16 sq. basswood gray. Then started chopping the pieces for the 10 end roof supports. Still have to add the angle pieces
