Looks great Rob; I like the natural way it sits in the scene. It's an excellent build of Fox Run; I saw it at the Expo and it has the some of the best concrete I've seen.

Super Detailing / Easy Peeled Paint for Vehicles
February 05, 2015, 10:33:59 PM
I've been using metallic markers by Sharpie for a lot of modeling situations. One in particular is great for creating the look of peeled paint on a car or truck. By simply dabbing on silver with a Silver Metallic Sharpie marker, you can make it appear as if the paint has chipped and peeled off. Be sure to dab very lightly as a lot goes a long way. Also, place your peel marks strategically, as in it might peel more in the forward edges of the vehicle; hood and roof edge etc... You can further the effect by applying some rust colored powder to the patches. I follow it up with an overall dusting of brown weathering powder. You can seal with Dulcoat, or not - I don't but if you handle your vehicles you may want to. Give it a try, it takes a minute.

Oyster Hill update...the kit has been shipping as promised, which was late December and early January. While it may seem like a 3 month delay, the advertised date was nearly on time. there have been some postal delays with USPS as mentioned above. And the last two dozen or so kits are being packed up this week; this particular delay is a mixup with a wood order that should be remedied by Monday. So any actual delay from the advertised date is about 2 weeks; for those of you who are getting kits during this period, I am including a free DVD for the wait.

Also if you have any questions about your order, please email me as I don't always get to check the forum. Thanks for your patience.

Regards

The "We" is figurative, but it's just me, a one person operation...it sounds awkward if I say" I just released blah, blah, blah...."

As for the name, Ive been trying to use customer names when possible or my go to names are movie characters  I like or streets and towns where I grew up in Queens, NY. In this case Hollis is all of those; a neighborhood in Queens, a character in the 1974 film Chinatown and a customers last name.

Not sure how they do it, but you can find many examples of buildings hanging out over the water. It's possible there was some temporary scaffolding built.

Glad you like the kit!

Dioramas / Pennsy Changes
February 28, 2014, 10:28:54 AM
Here's the latest changes on Jimmy Deignan's Pennsy Middle Division...one of the original sections of scenery was removed and replaced with a South River diorama of Lamson & Goodnow built by Karl Laskey. Lots of cutting and leveling was done as well as updating the diorama scenery to blend in with the vibrant scenery of the Pennsy.

Super Detailing / Paper Details
February 19, 2014, 06:21:43 PM
It's the simple things sometimes that make the most impact - on this sliding door straps where added to give the appearance that the rod is mounted to the wall. Many times I've modeled something like this without any kind of straps. The rod by itself in HO is effective enough. But by adding some narrow strips of regular copy paper, cut as thin as possible, suddenly an HO scale model is elevated to something closer to O Scale.

You can also find other uses for paper; many time see model guy wires that hold up loading dock roofs. These wires as modeled, are often just glued to a wall and roof, when in reality they would be anchored somehow. Cut a small square out of paper, give it an application of rust chalk powder and you have a steel mounting plate.
