ON30 Loco Shed

I have started to build an ON30 loco shed for our club's new show layout the Quincy & Cedar Creek.

This is a scratch build and my pals have kindly provided me with a couple of sheets of Mt. Albert board and batten sheets and a few windows but little else...Oh and a scale drawing of what they required.....the rather sketchy doodle on the card in the left of this picture.

So far I have cut the ends of the shed and the one wall that will be visible to the public when the structure is placed on the layout. No point in wasting good wood that will not be seen when plain card will do....

I normally model in HO or OO so this is the first time I have had to build in O scale, wish me luck!

Thanks Bob, I think I need to distress the walls a bit more than I normally do for HO scale.......

Well, finally you've come to your senses and building in the proper scale 
On30 IS funner and this will be a great project.  Engine houses are pretty simple affairs so scratchbuilding is very appropriate.
Will be watching.

The board and batten walls are very flimsy. The long wall is actually three pieces glued together. So I braced the walls and while the glue was taking hold sprayed the windows with a primer white.

Continuing... I stained the walls with an alcohol and ink mixture and afterwards sponged on a dilute mix of an acrylic paint. Then I used a metal pronged suede brush to aged the walls.

I did a similar small enginehouse in HOn30.  This photo is missing the cupola.  My lazy carpentry crew did sliding doors, rather than hinged doors.
