Singleton was a layout that both my father and myself built back in 2001 in HO.
The question at the time was what building should I use, as I wanted the layout to represented the late 20's.
I will admit that I did buy some woodland scenic kits, but I wanted something unique for the station building.
On visiting a number of flee markets, I stumbled across some HO plastic windows and doors, a must buy at the time.
I then bought a sheet of card stock from an art supplier and some wood strips and the fun begun.
Armed with my trusty knife I cut the windows and doors out of the card to fit, I then using the knife carefully marked out each and every wooden panel on the building, a long but rewarding process.
Once I had glued the model together, I painted it with a base coat of FLO foundation, before applying FLO wood stains to finish the model.
I also used the foundation base on the doors and windows, as I have not used any paint at all.
For the roof tiles I decided to buy some old cheap cigars, where I disposed of the tobacco, and used the paper for my shingles.
The chimneys are made from balsa wood, then finely painted with a plaster coat, before carving the brick work, and again they are painted with FLO wood stain giving it a true brick color effect.

Shane,

Nice little station but the shingles certainly appear to be Campbell shingles. I applied enough of them over the past 40+ years to know.

Thanks Tom, I did make a small Campbell kit freight shed earlier, prior to making the station building and being a single father at the time I had a low budget, so I improvised with cigar papers and used what I had over in Campbell shingles as a template.

The station Building located on the layout.

Both my father and myself donated the layout to our local train club at the time we were members of, as we did not have the room to keep it, due to selling our house at the time.

We donated the layout, but I still retain the buildings, ready for my next project, being an On3 layout 2' x 12' that I can alter using these buildings to HO to run my rolling stock.

Shane, nice work.  I had forgotten that I was in the scratchbuilt section.  Looks better than some kits I've seen.  Keep it up.
