That is precisely why horseshoes are properly hung with the cleated ends pointing skyward like a letter U. Mounted that way, the luck doesn't fall out. Unless of course, those U's are on the seat of your pants in which case your luck has all ready run out.

The way it usually works with horses, if there's a hoofprint on you, the open end is up - you got kicked standing behind it.  Getting kicked while standing elsewhere leaves a different mark.
