Morning all,

I've been fiddling around with trying to figure out how to position Red Hook Wharf (yet to be built) on a 2' by 4' module that may become the basis for a small switching layout.  Nothing solid yet.  Just noodling ideas.  ;)  Aside from that not much progress on the workbench.  I have a bunch of detail castings I'm painting and lots more waiting in the wings.

Have a great one!

Good morning Bob (nice pic!) & those joining later. No progress on my layout for a while.  Hope to sneak some in this week.  Until then, stuff to do around the house.

Morning all,

I got some track ballast down yesterday and then cleaned up the layout room. I need to cut the grass prior to the rain.

Have a great day ya'll.

Good Morning Everyone;

The rain Tom talked about arrived before I got going this morning. So looks like I will have to take the opportunity to clean up work area and have some fun at the bench. I am currently working on a few projects one for the local museum layout. I will be using the FSM #140 Sawmill kit as the base to re-create a Florida sawmill the Atlantic Coast Line served that was called Heasters. Here is photo:

Hope all have a great day.

I have all but 1 of the switch machines installed in this set.  The one that remains will be a real challenge, because it's far back on the layout and I can't reach it.  So I'll have to get someone to help grab the throw rod from above when I fish it up from below.

Also I had to 'fatten' the splines where that machine goes to make it wide enough to hold the switch machine bracket.

Always something!   Did I ever mention that trackwork is my least favorite part of the hobby?

I'm in the land of very poor internet, tonight, or I would find it for you - but I came up with a way of installing switch machines, when necessary, all from above the benchwork.  It is some work but one guy can do it - and you get to use a lot of your tools. ;)  I know I posted pictures in my build thread. It has been in the last couple years. The basic concept is to mount the switch machine to a board on your workbench and then mount the turnout to the other side.  You cut a hole in the benchwork and mount the board as an insert into the benchwork. Attach the track to the ends and you have a turnout installed from the top. Send me an email if you can't find it and I will send pictures when I have good internet.
