So, last summer while working on the DuBois Store, I needed something to fill-in for the waiting for kit bits down time .  An internet kit pusher was having a 30% off sale, so I nosed around a bit.  I had been looking at the above two Bar Mills kits and with the sale, it was buy one get one almost free.  So I ordered.

These two small kits had full sized elevations included in the instructions.  So, it was a simple matter of making copies and gluing them on some stiff cardboard to make a mock up of what I was looking for.  A bit of fiddling and I found it.   I will rename the new structure JAKS after a buddy of mine who, at one time, owned the company.  I did have to reverse the Jacks front as the door needed to be on the left.  Luckily, the part was reversible.  I just needed to make a new tar paper covering as the original part was cut on adhesive stock and carve in some boards where the paper was torn.

It was a simple matter of making a dock deck from scribed wood.  I added deck joists full length only where needed to keep the deck straight.  I use 1/8" spacers which also help keeping the 2x10 material vertical

The Bulls Salvage office part shows some wall framing, so I decided to make it look like this part was being rebuilt.  As such, I needed to add some wall finishes.  I used some wood board texture and resized it to look correct.  I did the same to the Jacks building.  Interestingly enough, since this was an after thought, the paper was distracting enough to loose the corner bracing.

It was about this point when I decided to lite the interiors.  Since I had mounted the buildings on 1/2" foam core, I had to find some aircraft drill bits and found some that go from 1/4 to 1/16 that are all the same length so I could drill holes for the wiring.  I used some 12v SMDs and some 3v 0402 SMDs.  The 0402s are tiny but pack a wallop.  Wiring was easy, as I drew a basic wiring diagram on the bottom of the board.  The 0402s come with dropping resistors for various voltage ranges.  While the below photo shows some of the wiring, it doesn't show the final rats nest.  I did secure all of it with hot glue.  I didn't take a photo to protect the guilty.

With the interior now somewhat visible, I made a desk, added a couple of little people and some interior details,

Since the upper building was being repaired, I made some 4x8 plywood sheets, tar paper rolls, and a job ladder.  Kit door and windows were store in the back, safe from the construction.  Then it was a matter of stuff and some scenery.

I used the included material to build two yard lights.  I tried drilling out the supplied plastic light shades, but it wasn't going to work.  I scrounged up 2 Campbell brass shades and some  small brass tubing that fit into the shades.  Just cut the tubing to length and feed the LED wiring through.  For these small LEDs, I apply Canopy glue to the solder points to make them a bit stronger.  Then once seated up against the shade, I added more Canopy glue to attach it to the shade.  I wired these up through the shade support and down the outside of the light pole.  Again, I used Canopy glue to thicken the wires up a bit and painted the gray to simulate conduit.

With everything attached to the copper foil, I just need to add the attached foil leads to my power source, and so far it works.

I have since added a Bar Mills fence, but still need to add my JAKS sign.

Bob,

Impressive in both concept and execution.  Kudos!

Wiring looks ugly.  Good thing it'll get buried.

Got the final signage installed along with the Tichy jib crane.

One of these days, I need to add some little people.

Time to move on to the next one.

Two thumbs up Bob!  I blinked and I missed this great little build.   ;D
