Jim,

Thank you for your kind words It has been quite some time since i posted any pictures so here are a few new ones. Recently i have been working on the backdrop. I have several photo murals in my collection for quite some time, so I decided to cut all the sky and extra stuff out and post them on the wall to see what I really want for the background. Well, here are two pieces of the backdrop with some buildings placed in the foreground. I have one more to cut which will go to the right of the pic. Now i need to find structures to place in the foreground, without loosing some of the background definition. Easier said than done. So over the next couple of weeks, i'll be scrounging beneath the layout to see what I have.

Once i have all the backdrop in the right location, i will adhere it to the backdrop, then add smoke and other visual effects using pastel or other media. There are still some areas on the photos that need to be removed to allow the backdrop to show thru. Maybe a bit of puffy cotton to add the three dimensional aspect to the clouds.

I also have been ordering specialized plastic components for elements of the steel mill. They have arrived and i can now start to assemble them. Lots of details including lighting.

Frank,

I love your steel mill complex. To bad we didn't have them in my neck of the woods. Well, then again, it probably is a good thing.

Great work and it looks fantastic my friend.

Tom,

Thanks for your kind words. Been busy trying to visualize the scene. I now have three cutouts on the back wall. they appear to provide the depth i want to create. The buildings in front of the background help to provide depth. And of course, the blast furnace needs to be completed. I now have most of the components and need to assembly them. Weill i hope all goes well. Somehow, the older i get, the slower it seems to build this scene. Stay tuned for more progress. I took this photo to show the area as viewed from a bit  of a distance.

I was reminded yesterday that I have been off the forum for quite some time. Thank you RPDYLAN. Bob is right, it has been some time. /several events have kept me busy. A major project is our upcoming regional convention. As director, this is keeping real busy, but not on the layout. Layout related, i continue to work on the steel mill and have several months to go. Attached is a photo.
I also had cataract surgery on both eyes. WOW, wonderful. I can see again. I have also been working on several house projects that have keep real busy. Then there is high school graduations for the grandkids, etc,,,, The list goes on and on.
Besides the steel mill, i have started designing the Whitman, Mass station. I have two pictures from a painting book that was done by Randulph Bye. One pic is the building as built and one is as burned. My plan is to build both buildings. Yes. both from scratch, so stay tuned.

Back to the honey do list.

Good to see that you are getting a little time to hide in the train room.  The steel mill is really looking great.  I'm looking forward watching your next project.

Looks great Frank , did you do something special to the photo, almost looks as if it's a painting or drawing and I don't mean the background, I like the effect.
I love photo's, don't we all.
