Anybody ever built one of these? There are no HO scale kits for these types of ore cars, Bachman makes them in the larger scales, why doesn't somebody make an HO kit?

Stan...

I have not built this particular kit but I can offer a few suggestions regarding working with this sort of soft casting.

Cut parts with a Zuron cutter.........  not a common wire cutter.  Wire cutters create too much crush in the process of cutting.  Zuron actually cuts the metal.

Cut the parts from the sprue some distance away from the actual edge of the part.  Then use a file to get to where you want.  Only use a small "mill" file.  Don't use any sort of coarser file.

Use CA super glue for bonding.  Clean each part to be bonded with a few scrapes of a Xacto blade just before you want to glue something.  The soft metal oxide resists glue and it oxidizes very quickly.

Although I have never used it............. there is a release agent for CA glue if you get something wrong.

This metal stuff is rather flexible so parts can be pulled into correct location if warped from the package.

After that.................. in the immortal words of the preacher in Blazing Saddles................ "Son... you're on your own."

thanks for all the good tips Bob. I have the zuron cutters for rail so easy enuf...I wonder if I could convert the Precision scale kit to standard gauge?

I suppose you could stuff some arch bar trucks under most anything.

Also you can use 28 or 30 inch wheels versus the 33 inch that most come with.  That would scale it down a bit.
