Bob,

I'm not sure I have any more words to describe your masterful work my friend. So, what ever word there is to use, I'd use it here.

I've gone to this for stucco...quick 'n' easy...can paint any color.

I definitely have to give that a try Dave.  Thanks for the tip!  ;D

You are making a really nice job of this build Bob.

I have Jimmy Dee's Topless Bar and Hokum's House of Burleque on my Red Hook Bay show layout and they always cause a stir with the viewing public. I have actually positioned two topless girls sunning themselves on the roof of Jimmy Dee's to good effect!

Keep up the good work I enjoy learning new techniques and I must try out the "crackle" effect.

Mike  ;D

Thanks Mike!  I bet Hokum's and Jimmy Dee's look wonderful on your show layout.  I've built Hokum's once for Tom and have another in my closet to build for myself.  That's a great little kit.  I bet the girls on top of Jimmy Dee's catch everyone's eye.   :D

Structure number 3

The Adult Bookstore

Okay, I have to apologize up front on this one.  Apparently I fell asleep at the work bench and forgot to take pictures during the build.   :-[  I guess I didn't want to bore you by repeating stuff from the previous two structures and ended up with almost nothing.  Sorry about that but I'll describe what was involved with this small structure as best I can.

There's not a lot to this one in terms of parts.  The facade, doors and windows are all constructed from laser cut components that are glued together.  There are no side walls as the building sits between two larger structures but I did end up cutting some of my own from black mat board to help prevent light leaks if (when) I like the interior of some of these structures.  While it's no where near as good as the results Eric is getting but all in all I'm happy with it.   :D

The facade, as I mentioned, was built up in layers like the previous structures.  I painted it with a Green Apple color darkened a wash of Model Masters Black Detail Wash.  After that I added rust stains using oil paints and odorless mineral spirits.

The top of the front wall is laser cut brickwork (nicely done by the way).  I painted it, trying to match the masterful job EricQubec has done on his Old Squid Brewery Project.  The only issue I ran into was with the mortar.  The instructions recommend using a thinned out paint and allowing it to wick into the joints.  I have a premixed mortar color on my work bench that I tried using.  It flowed easily in between the bricks and looked great.  For about 10 seconds.  Then the wall absorbed it.  I added more.  Same thing.  Long story short the wall started to warp on me.  I braced it.  Let it dry and punted.  I ended up using lightweight spackle for the mortar instead.

The rear wall is covered with stucco, like the Art Deco Theater was, but with patches of brick showing.  If you're building the kit and don't have any extra Durham's Rock Hard Water Putty handy which, fortunately for me I did, it's worth noting that you'll need some for this wall so don't use it all on the theater.   :o  Had I been using Dave K.'s rattle can stucco method it would have been easy to cut/tear some little bits of masking tape to protect the exposed brickwork during painting.  I think I'll try Dave's method out when I build Moscone Bail Bonds (someday  ::)).

Basic roof.  I'll add some additional details, debris and weather to the roof when the structures are joined together.

Well, that's all she wrote on this on.  Next up is the triple theater build.  I'll try to take a few more pictures along the way for next time around.

Thanks for following along!   :D
