Wow - Jaime you are really moving along. You sure came back from the Narrow Gauge Convention all fired up to do some modeling. I hope it lasts. The card stock structures really are amazing.

Thanks for all your feedback, gang. I like these builds. It's almost like we're all at the clubhouse building stuff together.

I decided to give the windows a try. The kit comes with individual windows that can be applied to the model thus giving the structure some relief and dimension. First off one needs to cut out the printed window hole and replace it with an individual window. It is almost like making your own windows.

Here you see the cut out individual window.

I scored the back of the window along the fold lines to make it easier to fold the paper. I used a pointy tool to score the paper part.

And this is an idea of how the individual window fits in the window hole.

I then cut out the individual window panes so one can see into the structure.

I glued in the window.

I will fix the broken mullion later. All I have to do is print me another window and cut out what I need out of it.

I then added the individual trim provided to give the structure even further relief and definition.

The end product so far.

I cannot decide if I want to cut out the voids where there are missing boards. I'd need to glue in some studs in behind the dangling boards and such. I'm thinking that would be a lot of fun...

By the way, my wife Lisa said the structure is too green. I told her it is not finished yet.

Later.

Looking good Jaime.  I really like the addition of the window.

Great project so far. Very cool that you are working in styrene and then card stock on this diorama. And the thread is a good tutorial. I think Raymo deserves a big pat on the back for all the fires he lit.

6 pages already...looking good.  Remember, those broken boards would normally have tar paper behind them.

I noticed in the B&W photo of the original dozer it had the name Komatu on it as does the model's radiator shell.
So where does the "Komatsu" come from?

Komatsu was founded in May of 1921. It was formed by the Komatsu Iron Works to make tools and mining equipment for its parent Takeuchi Mining which was founded in 1894. I suspect Komatsu is someone's name.

I think it's neat the raised name is quite prominent on the front of the dozer.

Raymo

We have a few pieces of Komatsu equipment here at work. They're referred to as Come-apart-soon.

My model resembles that remark ...

But the name in the photo and on the shell is spelled Komatu with no 's'.
That was the point of my question.

Oh. Maybe that's why mine was on sale.

Someone fell asleep at the die machine or they couldn't procure the rights to use the name.

I'll add a mud blotch there and no one will know the difference.

When is the challenge deadline again? I may be falling behind. Got to catch up.
