A little fast forward here and this is where I stopped. I'll explain why in the next post.

What you see above is actually two layers of my base scenery.

When this dries I plan on adding two additional layers of ground scenery prior to any trees and bushes being added.

Those of you that know me and better yet, know my history, know I have no qualms about ripping a part or all the layout out! Call me Mr. Redo but if I don't like it or think it doesn't look correct, out it comes and there it goes.

I decided that I didn't like the way the wall side of the sand hill looked when compared to the inside sand hill.

You guessed it, out it came.

I used the long bladed knife to reshape the hill/slope.

The spackle is vinyl. When I cut the foam I was able to remove the spackle in pieces, many, many pieces.

After I got the basic shape to my satisfaction, I used course 50 grit aluminum oxide sandpaper on a 1X4 block and started sanding.

When I was finished, I couldn't see the track in places.

I cleaned up the area and got all the blue foam dust off the track and layout.

Don't know if the new slope is visible but it is better and now I'm satisfied.

A new coat of spackle was added to the new slope.

Sounds like you are still having fun. Your nick name should be Mr. in and out. Put it in then take it out. That dose not sound right. The progress looks good Tom, have fun.

Bill,

Sounds good to me, in and out. While at the University of Florida we went to a local burger joint called, Yep, The In and Out. It was drive through only.

I appreciate the support, much appreciated.

Donato,

Yepper, that's the one. The good ole In-N-Out Burger joint. The we had at the University of Florida didn't have a walk up window.

Yesterday, The Judge and I had Greg run a steam loco around the layout. We told him not to go over 25 MPH on the throttle. He said he would give it a try.

I had a picture of Greg at the throttle but I accidentally deleted the photo. To his credit he did in fact run the SAL steamer #492 around layout one time. His knees and hands were shaking so bad he needed to lean up against the bench work to steady himself.

No sooner did he get the steamer back to the station, that throttle went to 40 MPH+. In Greg's own words, "I did it for one lap but just couldn't keep my fingers from turning the throttle higher."

Ya just can't teach old dogs new tricks.
