I think it's kind of natural after having met a deadline to feel a bit down afterward.  I've felt the same way about building stuff since I started the new job.  Part of my issue is fatigue, but I'd also finished my first real portion of scenery on the layout.  Last week I started a small kit and a couple of boxcars to see if I can get back at it.

Jeff

Dr.Jones,

I believe you are also correct. I did feel a little of a let down after the open house but I attributed it to just being tired. I'll take my time and get back to it slowly.

I'll defer to the wisdom of others regarding the lack of interest in the layout. Without trying to sound melodramatic, be encouraged it hasn't spread to other parts of your life. That's when the real problems occur. And I'm not convinced that the "fatigue" you're experiencing is not a part of the process of "getting older".  8)

Chip,

Thanks for the support. I think some of it is my age and thankfully it hasn't spread to the rest of my life or family. I have a great support staff here at home. As my wife said, "Buy me something and you'll feel better." ;D ;D  That will certainly make her feel better.

One thing that has worked for me is to build a kit/structure in another scale.  Maybe you can grab a good O Scale kit and work on that.

Dave,

Great idea. I've though of that but decided I didn't want to build something I wasn't going to use or need on the layout. However, the idea is still in my pea brain.

Once you get started with your oil facility the inspiration will come back!

I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out

Leo,

You may have a point there/here. I was working on it this afternoon and got a little of the fire back.

Update later this afternoon.

I like the grimy look on the tanks. They definitely look like they have been sitting there awhile. I have run into modelers block before and what I did was do little projects for several weeks and by then I was ready to do something larger.

Curt,

Thanks for the input. I like both colors for tanks and will try to use them both for a contrasting look. I've had writers block in my college creative writing class but this has me stumped. I've never gone this long without something to show for the time.

ACL 1504,
T, nice pics my brother from another brother.  Too bad for the rest of us you don't work for a magazine taking pictures of layouts.  KP-out!

Thank ya'll for responding concerning my post. This is one great forum.

This afternoon I spilled the contents of three boxes on my work bench.

I washed the parts in warm soapy water to remove any mold release agents on still on the plastic.

When dry I removed the pipe supports and bases. I used a #11 Xacto blade to remove some extra flash. I then glued the supports to the base pieces.

I then randomly placed them between the tracks.

I should have more to show tomorrow afternoon.

Brother Thom,

Thanks for the nice compliment on the pics of Cliff Powers' fantastic layout.

If I did take the pictures for the mags as you suggested, I wouldn't have time for my own empire building.

Just saying.

Tom, that is going to be really impressive when it's built. It's going to be huge.

Looks good Tom...I'm a fan of a darker color like Black or Green...but mostly because I like hardcore weathering  ;)

I have a confession of sorts to make.

I'm not sure if it's a hold over from the NMRA open house, Hurricane Irma or what.  No matter how I feel, I can't seem to get interested in the layout work. I've been this way for a few weeks now.

I was speaking to Frank Baker, Erieman, this afternoon and he said he went through a similar period after the MRR shoot with Lou Sassi. Frank said he is getting over it but still has the same issue.

Maybe I need more Diet Pepsi, I've been cutting back and attempting to drink more water. ;D ;D ;D

I'm sure it will pass but for now I'm just getting by on a few, okay, 1-2 hours a day in the layout room. I come in, look around, turn around, turn off the lights, leave and lock the door.

However, I do have a little update.

Tom ;D

Good Morning Tom,

Yes, I still have some of that syndrome. Maybe we should name it. I think the only solution is to just keep walking into the train room and say that your not done yet and what an I going to do today. A list might help. Hot weather help for me. When it is 110 outside, i'm in the train room.

I wish you luck getting rid of this dreaded disease "trainitis" or what ever it is. We both have a long way to go. Have a great day my friend, drink a lot of water and play with trains.

Curt,

Thank you. When finished it will be just over two feet long.
