The track plan and all the overall photographs made a lot of light bulbs go off for me - you have a lot of square feet to have fun building in the future. It's amazing because you have already completed a lot of railroad. Having the center peninsula serve as a temporary workbench is some real nice Engineering.  Thanks again for sharing your build with us - I come away with new ideas for my layout every time I visit.

John,

What I like about this track plan is that I have room to run trains, do plenty of switching for operations and lots of room for structures.

The center isle will give me many switching areas and the third level center isle will be the passenger trains, post office and REA structures.

Tom,
This may be late for you, but for others still building, do an internet search on Kreg Jigs.
These amazing little devices take a lot of the squaring problems out of assembling true wood working corners. I know Lowe's stocks them as do better, high end wood working stores.

Chip,

The Kreg jigs are great little additions to any workshop, especially wood working shops. I did consider them in years past but didn't want to spend the money for them on bench work.

Question, Tom...
For box number 2, could you shorten the cross members by 3/4", but keep the same width for the plywood. Then you would only need to notch the plywood to clear the brackets, keeping the strength of a continuous 1 x 3 rear frame member?

Rollin,

You and I are on the same page here. I was gong to fix the problem the way you suggested but was to lazy after building the box.

What you suggested is the very thing I planned to do on the rest of the boxes. The wall brackets are 3/4" thick so the 3/4" over hang won't be an issue. And the plywood wouldn't need to be notched.

I'll show what this will look like on the next box build.

Wow!  Lots and lots of progress being made on the Atlantic and Southern.   :o  I'd better wrap up the Radio Station soon.  Looks like it'll have a wonderful home.   :D

The pictures are great but the layout is even better when viewed in person.   ;)

Bob,

It has certainly been a progress filled week. Take your time on the Radio Station. I won't need it anytime soon.

Thank you for the very kind compliment on the layout, much appreciated.

You'll probably be getting it soon anyway.   ;)  I'm nearly finished.  I'm working on the lighting.  Once that's finished it's just the large WKLO sign that spans the two buildings (three roofs) and I'll be done and can move on to the build challenge.  I'd have been done a long time ago but this working for a living slows me down a bit.   ::)

Funny man, those aren't the two I'm looking for or wish I had.

A few months ago I purchased some LEDs from Slim and promptly misplaced them. I knew if I ordered more, I'd find the missing lot of LEDs and other goodies.

I placed a reorder with Slim and yep, a week later I found the old lot. I told Slim to go ahead and fill the second order as I would then have twice as many to loose.

However, this time I put them where I can easily find them.

Here is a look at some Raymo vehicles I'm saving to the layout later.

Mark,

I'm glad you are enjoying the build thread. I get on a roll once in a while and find it hard to stop.

You are welcome also.
