Today I attached the fascia around the roundhouse turntable area. I also set and tested the turntable. It actually still worked after being placed in a box for the past 4 years.

Photos possibly tomorrow.

You never can tell with Slim.....he does get mischievous on occasion.  ;D

Greg,

I'd say more often than not. Just saying.

I was trying to be good.....my Dad told me never to kick a man when he was down.....although he never said you couldn't needle him a bit when he wasn't quite vertical.  ;D ;D ;D

I did one install of the turntable/roundhouse track yesterday.

Back later this afternoon, the Babe needs me to do something. :-X

Okay, false alarm, I'm needed to help move furniture later.

Today I cut an area for the steam loco ash bit. It will span three tracks and have an area for a conveyor belt to load ashes into a gondola.

I set the coaling tower over the tracks as a reference only. It will be located closer to the turntable.

After measuring thrice and cutting once, I had the cut out for the ash pit. I'll determine the depth of the pit later tomorrow.

I forgot to mention I cut four corner pilot holes for the saber saw blade when cutting the ash pit. However, there is a neat trick I learned on how to cut out a square without drilling a pilot hole by using the saber saw.

I also marked an area where the gondola will be loaded with ashes.

When I cut out the ash pit, the plywood around the hole was a bit loose. Meaning it moved to much up and down.

I cut a length of 1X4 and also cut out a notch for the gondola ramp. In the photo below, the area where I have the carpenters square is the area needing support.

The 1X4 was screwed in place. You can see the notched area in the left center of the photo.

The depth of the gondola ramp will be determined along with the ash pit depth.

Now, I'm waiting for the tools to put themselves up.  ;D ;D ;D

Very bad electrical storm outside so I'm shutting down.

Back for more updates tomorrow.

Tom, this is going to be a great looking area! Can't wait to see the details you add...

Tom,
I copy what DR said.  You are building a really awesome layout with perfect construction techinque with outstanding pictorial and modeled scenes that damn well better be emortilized in every magazine.  Having said all that, I'm glad you are a very unattractive man like me, otherwise I would have to complain about how unfair life really is. Truth hurts I know. ha.  KP-out...

Looking good Tom.....don't let the little people fall in the pit..... ;D

Had to laugh when I saw the picture with all the tools strewn about.  Hit a little to close to home.   ;D

Dan,

Thank you, I'm getting excited about detailing the area and fitting in certain structures.

Thom AKA: KPI,

First, thank you for the kind words and compliment. I'm working on the magazine aspect as well.

Secondly, you are like my good friend Greg of Gregory DeMayo fame. You just don't realize when you banter with me you will ultimately loose in the end.

Reference my looks, I may be 72 years of age but I'm still 200 lbs. of twisted blue steel, rough, tough, hard to buff and damn good looking! I'll bet your mirror fogs up when you step into view.

And, since we are bantering back and forth in all good fun, I have a suggestion for you. Brush up on the badinage skills and get back to me. As I once told my sister, whom I love to hate and hate to love, I've been insulted by professionals and you sis, are no professional.

Tom ;D
