As recommended by kiwi Mark I looked into the resin castings offered by Rusty Rail (rustyrail.com). Amongst other detail they offer seven HO scale models of fishing boats cast in resin. They appeared very reasonably priced ranging from $17 to $25 and I ordered three. Even with UK customs duty and overseas postage they seemed a good deal!

I've been very pleased with the resin trucks by Rusty Rail...hard to beat the price

Thanks VS.

I decided to concentrate on one of the kits rather than do a "Ford Model T" production line. That may go on in the background but as the kits are essentially the same etc.........

The flash is minimal on the kits I received. A bit of cleanup is required around the windows obviously and the tyres/fenders  may need a bit of a fettle. However the one I have selected to "build" required none!

This is one of their latest kits ( so the molds are newer) and is a waterline fishing or coastal freighter. It measures 6.5 inches  from stem to stern and is 2 inches wide and tall. It comes with positionable hold doors, 2 lobster pots, 2 crab pots and a removable pilot house roof so the interior can be detailed.

I am not sure about the masts at the moment. I am sure they will straighten out with some warm water but I may replace them with wooden ones.

They are a nice quality item, a friend has done up a few and has his finished kit on the Rusty Rails site. I have one sitting on the desk that I will get to one day for my wharf scene. Harry I hope you post photos of how you do your boat.

Thanks Curt and Lynn.

First I gave the boat a blast of primer. RR suggest Rust-Oleum Camouflage. I could not find any in my local town. So I used a german make- " Montana Gold" Sand.

I then painted the hull with cheap acrylics...............

Really nice Mike. Do you clean the resin with soapy water before painting?

Hi Curt,
They suggested no. So I did not. Looks OK though.

Thanks for the suggestion Mark, I really appreciate it or my wallet does...........

Jan, check them out. Much cheaper than Arcitec and the rest...............great for filling a harbour or two................

The masts and booms were bent due to packaging. I filled an aluminium ex. pie dish with boiling water and dunked the items in there for a few minutes. Fishing each item out with a pair of tweezers I was able to straighten the items easily.............
