Spectacular, John. An engineering tour de force as well as a modeling masterpiece.

Thank you for stopping by the thread and for the kind words. That engineering stuff is kinda stuck in my head.

John,
That is quite a project you have going there.  I think it will be an outstanding scene when finished.

What an awesome scene this is turning into, can't wait to see it finished.
I love photo's, don't we all.

Looking terrific, John!

I'm still trying to work out the unknowns in your master plan (unknowns for me), but I'm enjoying guessing!

Cheers, Mark.

Thank you for the kind words. I believe we both enjoy the design portion of the hobby as much as we do the building. The "Master plan" has a way of changing. How many times do we say wow that might work better.

Today, I spent most of the day adding window castings to all of the subassemblies for both Threadwell's and Delabarre. I then started adding roof cards and decided to give Jan's (aka Janbouli) sand bags a try to hold the roof cards in place while the glue dries. Jan showed pictures of his sand bags earlier in this thread when he saw a picture of my weights all stacked up to hold a roof card in place. Here is a picture of my new and improved sand bag on the tower assembly for Delabarre's. The new and improved part is the duck tape over the zip lock.  Don't ask how I found out I needed to do that.  It worked great! I will be making up a few of them to put the larger roof cards on the main building and subassemblies. Thanks for the tip Jan.

You're very welcome John , and thank you for the tip with the tape , didn't need it yet , but this will help ever needing it  ;)

Fantastic work, John, and very exciting to see it come together and how it will fit on your layout. I like Jan's sandbag idea--my rubber bands around the entire structure only work for small builds.

Thank you for the kind words - the subassemblies are coming together on my workbench so I should be glueing them on the diorama in a couple weeks. Jan's sand bags work very well - I actually made up 4 of them today in preparation for all the roof cards I have to install in the coming days. Thanks for following along.

Today, I got a couple hours in at the workbench and decided to tackle the LED lighting for the Delabarre's. This diorama is going to be 6 feet from the viewer so I only want lighting that lights up the windows for a night scene but not to show any interior detail. I mounted peel and stick LED's, that I picked up from somewhere, in locations where the bulb would not be seen through the windows.  This structure has so many compartments because of the "cool" roofline it took a few lights and some strategically placed holes to get light to all the windows. I think you will get the idea through the following pictures.

All of the lighting was bench tested and I'm ready to glue the roof cards on.  The final step for today, was to drill the hole for the wires in the diorama base. I will have a junction box mounted in the foam that will be connect to a master control panel on the layout. I marked the hole so I would not forget about the wires and do some cutting in the wrong place. The next step is to do the same thing for the Threadwell's structures.  I may also add some outside lighting but it will be mounted to light poles so I can close-up the buildings, now.

I have one more light that needs to be mounted in the tower or through a hole in the roof card (TBD) - I laid it on the diorama so I wouldn't forget about it during the assembly process. I think this lighting, up on the hill above the town, is going to look real nice in a night scene. I like the way the light is detracted through the window glazing. The final pictures for this thread will have to include some night scene shots.
