I'm currently working my way through building all of the loading docks and decks for this diorama - there are a lot of them. I thought I would show the build sequence I use to build them. I start by adding all of the joists to the laser cut template.

In this case I'm building the main loading dock that goes behind Threadwell's. I'm building it in sections which will be glued together over the main template that Bob provides. I glue the first couple of deck boards in place on the joists to hold them in place as I move them to the main template.

Here is a progress picture of the process with all the weights in place to hold the deck boards while the glue dries.

This is a picture of the location for this section on the main template.  My glass plate does a great job of reflecting the overhead lights.

You will notice that I go back and cut all the joists to size after I apply the decking.

The coffee warmer is a recent addition to my workbench and has increased productivity.  I would get working and let my coffee get cold. This has saved many trips to the coffee pot - that is upstairs.

Here is the topside view of the loading dock.  The deck boards have only been treated with A&I in the bathtub shown above.  I get the variation from board to board by using three different batches of strip wood.  Batch one, the strip wood provided in the kit by Bob. Batch two, purchased strip wood. And batch three, is strip wood that I cut myself.  Every batch takes the stain a little different.

I will now be repeating this process for all of the loading docks and decks for the Threadwell's and Delabarre builds.

Looks great, John. Lots of good variation in the wood without looking zebra-like.  I love loading docks.

Looking good John , those boards are just great with the simple A&I, what a scene you're building.

Thanks for stopping by and the kind words - the A&I technique is very dependent on the strip wood your using.
