Good morning guys,

Great build Jeff. Just opening this thread and thought the building looked familiar. Now this is going to show my age, but what the heck. Model Railroader, December 1962 had a spread on what was the probably the idea for George. The model in the article was built by jock Oliphant of Winnipeg. Photos only, no drawings. A suggestion for finding back issues. Try "Railpub". They re in Wrentham, Ma. and have a huge selection of back issues and his price is very reasonable. i have used them on many occasions. Good Luck.

Frank, you did good mentioning the one by Jock Oliphant.  I do suspect that is the one George modeled his from.  I could not believe the commentary about how Jock got the dimensions.  He climbed the whole darn thing and took measurements!  No wonder he was a master modeler.
But, just FYI, Julian Cavalier did a 3 part series on building one of these, drawings and everything.  This 3 part article can be found in Railroad Model Craftsman February, March, and April of 1981.  This is the full model and it is big.  George's FSM version is a more reasonable cut down version, but is still quite large.
Regards, Vic Bitleris
