Great build.  Like others have said,  that Coke machine is fantastic.  Kinda looks like a Vendo 56.

Bob,

Thank you for the generous and kind compliment. I really like how Darryl made the machine. Certainly looks much better than the cast metal ones on the market.

Could be a Vendo 56 or maybe a Vendo 80, hard for me to tell.

Just curious , what are the Doctors saying why you should drop diet coke? I drink a lot of it myself Coca Cola Zero.

Jan,

Thanks for stopping by and asking a great question for all to get my response.

My doctor never mentioned to me to get off the diet sodas or sodas period. His issue with me is to cut back on the carbs. Here is what he said when I asked him about me drinking Diet Pepsi - "You'd be better off just drinking sweetened tea."

Cutting back and eventually quitting all sodas all together is just a personal decision on my part. I felt like it was just to much over the years. My children gave up sodas 15 years ago and the Babe has been on me as well.

I have noticed that I sleep better at night after cutting back and I try not to drink them after 4 PM. I would usually have one in the early evening and I guess the caffeine contributed to my restless sleep. I still get up for nature's call, but I do sleep much sounder after not drinking sodas after 3-4 PM.

Also, for a while, Pepsi stopped putting Aspartame in the Diet Pepsi but now it's an ingredient once again. There are about 36 sides effects of ingesting Aspartame. Google it and make your decision.

Bruce is also a Diet Pepsi nut like me. However, he has been experiencing some stomach problems. One of the side effects of
Aspartame is stomach problems.

Aspartame is the most dangerous sweetener on the market. It contributes to being overweight even though the bottle says 0 Sugars and 0 Caleries. Mostly, it is toxic to the good stomach bacteria.

Dr. Langford has said his piece.

Hope this helps.

Yesterday I started to assemble the two gas pumps. One will be the Gulf Gulftane and the other one Gulf No-Nox.

I still need to add the crank handles, nozzles and hoses as well as the lighted overhead awning.

Wow , the gas pumps look much better in a larger scale.
Tom , thanks for the answer on the Pepsi, I to sleep better when I don't drink it in the evening , as for aspartaam though , it is perfectly safe within less then 40 mg per day which is about 2/3ds of a gallon in diet coke. But drinking less of it can only be a good thing. I drink much more milk then coke , but milk is not a good mix with rum unless it's coconut milk  ;)
I love photo's, don't we all.

Jan,

Yes, they do look good in HO. I couldn't even imagine building them in N scale.

Hi Tom,

This is looking like a great build.  The gas pumps and coke machine are very nice.  Keep it up.

Not to get ahead of you, will there be the rack of motor oil on the island between the pumps?

I had to stop drinking Coke and Mtn Dew to the point I might drink a can of Coke a week.  Caffeine intake over the years took a toll.  Ended up with AFib which was helped along by gallons of Mtn Dew.  Still have iced tea I brew, but only one now.  Used to drink lots of it.

Tom - Finally caught up with your build. Looks like you're usual great craftsmanship. I need to find that kit as it would fit into my New Haven freelance layout I remember the Gulf stations from yore. There is actually one in Charlottesville VA.  Anyway I will try to keep up particularly interested in the interior. Jim

Steve,

Thank you, appreciate you stopping by for a look see. The coke machine and pumps really add to the gas station. Sure brings back some fond memories.

Larry,

No, you are not getting ahead here. There isn't any room for an oil rack between the pumps. The support column for the lighted pump awning goes in the middle.

I can't say that I've had any issues, that I know of, from drinking the sodas. I just needed to stop. It was that inner voice telling me "time to give it up".

Sorry to here about the AFIB. Maybe my impatience is due to the diet sodas! 8) 8) ???  No wait, that's my old age. ;D ;D
