I have Campbell Scale Models kit 389, Windy Gulch Engine House Kit in HO.  Has anyone built this kit...it's the one with the plastic(?) clear brick walls.  I've built the FSM two-stall engine house that looks good; but I made a few mistakes on it.  I'm kicking around the Campbell kit; but I am leery on painting the walls.  Kind of 50-50 right now...build it or sell it.  Any pictures of the completed kit would be great

YEARs ago, I got this kit and promptly screwed it up!  I used Walthers Goo to attach the brick sheet to the cardboard subwalls, and the Goo warped everything.

If you do this, make SURE you use a water soluable contact cement or something like "Gloop" (http://www.modelbuilderssupply.com/product_info.php?cPath=47_114&products_id=1965 )  I've had pretty good luck with Gloop, although it is a bit hard to find.

Hi John:

Yes I built that kit many years ago. Don't use what Dave said. Use 3M 465 double faced adhesive tape. No muss no fuss. It will attach the stone walls to the sub walls perfectly.  Also when you put your mortar between the stones use one time lightweight spackling. Put it on your finger wipe it on and wipe it off the surface of the stones. After the stones are painted of course. Learned this many years later while building Micro Scale models Quakertown station. It works great. Give these techniques a try.

3M #465 adhesive is the best thing since sliced bread. I get mine from Uline. Just google it. I get 5 rolls for around 80 some dollars. Better price than anywhere. Life time supply or many years anyway. This is the best stuff for applying signs to walls and many many other applications. All I can say is glue sucks for a lot of stuff. I've been using this stuff for a long time.

Just think of shingling roofs with glue. No way I can shingle a roof with this stuff is way less than half the time. Plus no oozing glue or glue marks all over your shingles.

If you want to talk about it PM me your phone number.

Just my thoughts.

Hi John:

PS:----You also can't beat it for applying corrugated roofing to walls or roofs. It will never come apart.

I think Karl's right, use the transfer tape!  Test it first, if the tape doesn't stick to the plastic stone, spray the back of the plastic with spray primer and let dry thoroughly.

After I ruined the stone walls of my kit, I replaced them with nice (for 40 years ago) brick-printed-on-basswood walls.

Hi Dave:

Not to worry it will stick to the bare plastic. That stuff sticks to anything. Atleast I haven't found something it won't stick to. Have a carpet in my work room. corner was sticking up. Wife was complaining about tripping on it. Guess how I fixed it. Up 3M 465 adhesive. Rubber backed carpet to a concrete floor. It ain't moved yet.
