Hi, Rick.  I'm enjoying following your and Star's travels.  Thanks for the compliment.

Jeff,

Very nice weathering on the windows and doors on the end shown above.

Rick and Star do get around.

Thank you, Tom.

The chimneys/stacks were all painted and these two ladders were stick built.

All the roof items were placed, except two billboards which I haven't gotten to in the instructions.  Making sure all these items stayed straight and square required some Rube Goldberg contraptions.

While waiting for each of them to cure, the next step is to make the side platform.  It's a piece of wood which I spray painted with some texture paint.  I didn't notice until it was in the paint booth that it wasn't straight.  A few passes with a razor saw in a miter box fixed that.  There are some stone castings which need some further paint that make up the side.

Next the instructions say to make a plywood base for the diorama.  I'm using Gatorboard for this.  I sized a piece and cut it on the table saw.  Painted the building area black (in case you look through the windows, you don't want to see a white floor), and the surrounding area an earth color.

I then attached the structure to the Gatorfoam.  Good time to do this as handling the building putting on the roof pieces I knocked off one of the doors and one of the tiny windows.  I also replaced ANOTHER missing rafter.  Then I used some chalks on the roof to break up the black of the raised rib roofing and add some soot stains around the chimneys.

Thanks Dave and Jerry, getting the roofs done and the structure attached to the base is a huge step in the process.

Doh!  Now I realize why the wood piece was not cut square.  The building has no 90 degree corner.  The next step is to add a wooden loading dock on the side.  Now there's a gap.  A saw and some sanding and it's close enough.  I can cover a small gap with a trash can or something.  I still think the angle on the wood piece was originally was a bit larger, maybe that's what threw me off.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

:) This is coming along nicely.  It was more than 20 years ago that I built this one.  I forgot all the little challenges with the odd shape of the structure and the roof details.  Keep up the good work.  It's going to be focal point on your empire!

Howdy Jeff,

The build is most excellent, but the roof details are amazing.  Nice work.

Have fun,
mike
My current builds are on the Buffalo Canyon Mining Company's wooden Howe Truss Bridge, and miscellaneous rolling stock .

Jeff,

Nice save one the corner dock. I'm very fortunate in that I had Reading Bob's build on the Atlantic and Southern RR. It is one of the businesses in Tahope.
