Howdy Bob,

There is a lot to see on the distillery, and your coloring and overall craftsmanship display it well.  Nice build.

Have fun,
mike
My current build is the Water Tower and miscellaneous rolling stock .

I like the overall choice of paint colors for the distillery.  They show off the architecture without overwhelming the eye.

Mike

Thanks, Mike!  I really appreciate the comments and having you following along.  I like that Light Avocado color as a trim color against a white building.  I used it before on another structure and was quite pleased with the results.

Thank you, Mike!  It's been a fun little build.  Well, maybe not little.  Mid-sized might be more appropriate.  Another outstanding kit from FOS.

Bob,

Wonderful job on the two structures. I think the distillery will look perfect behind the wharf.

Thanks, Tom!  I hope so.  I have to cut some plywood and homosote for the land-based structures of Red Hook and then craft some seawalls.  Then I can start playing around with the arrangement of the structures.  ;)

Thank you, Jerry! I'm always tinkering around with ways to get a somewhat realistic looking metal roof finish.  Rust is fun.  ;D

Thanks, Jeff! I need to build some benchwork and do some track planning so I can make use of these!  :o

Okay, here's an update on the lighting portion of the Distillery build.

I used a black photo mounting board I picked up at an art supply company and cut it into pieces to construct an interior of sorts. to that I attached copper tape to carry the current. To do so I had to peel the copper tape from the backing to expose the sticky side of the tape.

What I'm starting with is a simple strip that can be thought of as the 'bus'. Two strips of copper tape.  One to carry the positive side and one for the negative side.  This piece will run vertically in the structure and supply power to each 'floor'.

I use red and black sharpies to mark the tape, leads on the LED's and current limiters. Red = Positive and Black = Negative.

Now for the difficult part.  Making a goose neck lamp for the exterior.  I have some teeny, tiny LED's that soldered leads to using very thin wire (the kind used to wrap around the armature of an electric motor).  One wire is red and one it green.  The insulation is painted on the wires.  I had a batch of these already prepared from a prior build so i grabbed one, tested it to make sure it worked and the fed the two leads through a short length (3/4 to 1 inch) of .018 outside diameter steel tubing.

I pulled the wires through until the LED was near the tubing and then tested it again.  Note, since the tubing is steel if the LED is butted up against the tubing it will short out.  It needs to be close to the tubing but not against it.

Next, I took a Tichy lampshade that had been partially painted (primed and the reflective surface painted white) and fed the wires through it and then slipped it over the steel tubing.

More in a moment... 8)
