Ron, no attack intended.  Thanks to those who explained how it worked on RR-L.  I just wondered if we should combine them.

Just adding my two cents to the discussion: I see no issue with having separate daily chats - especially seeing as we are serving as a new home for another forum.

The only time this could ever be an issue would be if it creates a divide in the unified community. It's important not to try and recreate what was, but embrace this new home and fuse together the best of both.

Craig,

I agree and for my .02 worth, I like the two threads.

Just saying.

OK, let me put on my Moderator hat for 10 seconds.  Each topic is what the posters make of it.  I think Karl captured the practice from RR-Line, a daily topic, and Geezer's long running chat.

Read, post, or ignore each, as you wish.

I think a little more explanation about The Geezers Lounge is needed.
Ron and Tom have already provided some information and background and I want to add a little more.
In the beginning at the RR-Line forum there was only one Crew Lounge where we all met up in the morning, had our virtual coffee and breakfast and shared what projects we were working on and any 1:1 things going on.
I originally started in this hobby modeling in HO.
After a while Brian Nolan introduced us to On30 modeling with his beautiful dioramas.
This inspired me to switch to On30 and inspired others as well.
An On30 forum was added at the RR-Line.
It became quite popular.
One of the On30 modelers started an On30 lounge.
It also quickly became very popular.
Most members continued to start their day in the original Crew Lounge but many of us only posted in the On30 Lounge.
Bill Anderson (user name Geezer), who was a very good modeler and an even better human being, usually got us started in the mornings.
Unfortunately Bill became ill and passed away far too early.
In his honor the lounge's name was changed to Geezers Lounge.
That lounge was never intended to replace the original Crew Lounge and I don't remember anyone ever complaining about having the two lounges.
The Crew Lounge started a new thread daily just you do here.
For reasons that I don't remember, maybe someone with a better memory knows, why the Geezers Lounge stayed with one thread until it reached 100 pages.
At that point a new lounge was built and we all moved into it.
Each new lounge was given a new volume number and sometimes we'd a new feature such as a large screen TV, pool table juke box, etc.
We even remembered to bring over Tom Matthew's dirty sox that were always under the safe.
There was a mouse that lived under that sofa as well, but he must have passed away because we hasn't been seen in a while.
We tried to be creative with the lounge.
One thing we do at Geezers is comment on each members post from the previous day.
Not everyone does it, but I do and several others as well.
I think this creates a more personal environment.
In no way am I suggesting that this should be something you guys do in your daily thread.
Because of this it's much easier scrolling through the thread to see what others had posted.
If we started a new thread daily it would make that harder.

Just like the Geezers Lounge wasn't intended to replace the original Crew lounge, that same intention applies here.
We asked for an On30 forum here and were graciously awarded that consideration and I am grateful for that.
Because we were granted this new sub forum I assumed that we could carry on here the same way we did at RR-Line.
If I was wrong to assume that I apologize.
I have made many friends through The Geezers Lounge interactions and have met in person with a number of these friends as I have been traveling across the country.
If having the Geezers Lounge is a problem I guess we'd stop.
But if that happens I'd stop posting all together.
I hope that doesn't happen.

Quote from: elwoodblues on February 08, 2025, 11:16:50 AMGood morning everyone,

Well it's been a little over a month since us refugees have come over from the RR Line forum and already we are under attack.  :o

For what it is worth the "Geezer's lounge was named after a RR Line forum member Bill Anderson (Geezer was his handle) who happened to model in On30 was was a bedrock to the On30 community.  The lounge was continued in his honour ever since he passed away.  The reason it is in the O Narrow Gauge section is that most of the people that post there model On30 but everyone is welcome to participate.  On the RR Line forum we were on volume 35 before it closed down.

I also noticed that everyone complaining about it below don't seem to get what we are about.  I look forward to checking in every morning to see what everyone is up to.  Separating the lounger into separate day post will not be an option as most of the regular posters there prefer it the way it is.

I was under the impression that this forum was all inclusive, which is the main reason a lot of us came here from the RR Line Forum.

That's all I have to say on this matter and I'm getting off my soapbox now.

Have a great day everyone and happy modeling.
Thanks to everyone for your input concerning the addition of the Geezers Lounge. The Forum is what the members want to make of it for the the sharing of people interested in modeling. As for the reason there are now two chat rooms it has been well explained from what I've read. Having two rather then one is less inclusive but it is obvious some folks like a daily chat and others like the history attached to Geezers Lounge as well as the rolling thread format. So we have two places to say hi and catch up, Enjoy them as you like. All are welcome to participate as they can and want..

What's a old Geezer?

I heard Yellowstone has a bunch of them that sometimes let out a big puff of hot air and then a lot of steam!

This is the "Old Geezer"

He was a very well liked On30 modeler on the Railroad Line.

Your post is noted Rick and Ron.

My observation and in talking to other members is that there is no problem with the addition of the Geezer's Lounge, rather we are enjoying the fresh thoughts and like it and all the other ideas and builds being posted every day.

One thing to remember is that the main theme here is that "we love pictures" and y'all have jumped right in and if anything being so productive that it is hard to keep up with all the great builds that have been popping up over the last month.

The format and presentation should be determined by those who started and frequent the thread. If that's the way y'all like it, then do it and have fun..... :)

Besides, some of the meals and beverages are wonderful, although I'll still pass on the oatmeal!  ::)
