While trying to determine how viable San Juan Car Co. is nowadays as I am contemplating placing an order with them, I ran across this on their FB page:

In their words:

"The San Juan Photo Shelter site now has more then 6,000 images loaded on it.  Narrow gauge, standard gauge mining and other topics.  Not organized yet. But great photos for modeling references."

The photo collection is very viable at this writing. I agree 100% there are great photos in it! There are collections from different photographers, some collections are very large, others not, and one was empty when I tried to browse it.  But it is definitely well worth a look!

Back to why I was on San Juan's FB site in the first place:  A couple years back I tried to contact them; they were totally silent.  Has anyone here had good experiences with ordering from them recently?

My recent experience with San Juan, as of today:  Earlier in February I contacted San Juan with product questions through a form on their webpage, not through my email.  Total silence, and still no response at all to my questions nor acknowledgement that I even contacted them. Then Last week I remembered I had a small debit card from the Equifax settlement, my brother received a similar card earlier but had trouble with vendors accepting it.

Figuring I had little to lose by trying the debit card, on February 26, I placed a small order with San Juan online. The debit card went through apparently as I got a confirming email in a timely manner.  I also received a subsequent tracking number when my order was ready to ship. And today, I received my order via USPS.

My experience only, your mileage may differ.  I still won't give any non-communicative company my CC number, if I order again from this vendor, I will go through a hobby shop.

Perhaps my no-response is due to a website glitch, but website glitches are indicative of sloppy site maintenance, and I'm not giving them my CC.
