Great tip Philip, never thought of using a pencil for barrel bands. Now I know.

and, now back to Larry's thread.  ;D

Also to go along with this; if you wanted the bands to be rusty you could use a colored pencil instead of a black #2.

The roof is finished. I decided to go with a wood shingled roof for some variety and also being so small it wasn't a big project. There are 144 shingles made from 1x10's grained, colored with a light raw Sienna chalk, and clear alcohol. Then it was given a liberal coat of A&I allowed to dry. The shingles are 2 ft. in length with a 1 ft. lap. The ridge boards are 1x6's given the same treatment. Finally a darker brown weathering chalk was applied then worked in with a soft brush. Also added a little black very sparingly.

Here's what it looks like set in place on the layout. I do have to finish detailing the side deck but I'll have to wait for a few details to arrive; so I'll calling this build done. Also I did color all the bands on the other barrels as well. I am expecting my RR cars to arrive tomorrow so I may work on some of them for a bit so I can "play" moving some cars around. I did order enough link&pin couplers for everything. That's it for now and as always thanks for taking a look see.

That structure fits nicely in the scene, doesn't look mis-sized.

Dave thanks. That's why I scratch build most of my structures; I can make sure they fit the scene.
