Howdy Ron,

What are your thoughts about Mount Blue's coupler box approach versus Kadee pockets?  Do they operate well?

Have fun,

Mike, sorry I missed your question.

Mount blues coupler box approach works well if you use the recommended couplers in my case Kadee's #26.  On the boxcar I built previously I glued the coupler cover with Arlene's Tacky Glue so that I can remove it in the future if need be.

It's been a long time since my last update as the Challenge got in the way.  This update is called. . . . .

Where are the Sign Painters. . .

Now that the boxcars are done it was time to decal the cares.

MB-Boxcar 114.jpg

Because I have a small fleet of these to decal I made a styrene mask to make it easier to apply the decals in the same spot on every car.  This mask is for the logo.

The logo applied.

I made another Mask to position the reporting marks.

Half of the decaling on one side of the car completed.

One side of the car decaled.  One side down. 7 to go.  ;D

For those who are interested, I has the decal custom made by Precision Design Co out of Manitoba.  I did the artwork and the turnaround was quick with free shipping.

While waiting for the decals to dry I prepared the trucks.

MB-Boxcar 119.jpg

I painted the trucks with Tamiya's oxide red surface primer.

The wheels were painted with Vallejo's Panzer Aces Light Rust (#301)

The completed trucks.

Thanks for looking in.

Decals look great Ron!

And those wheel sets are really nice looking.
I'll have to write down that formula for refence.

Thanks Jerry,

It's how I painted the trucks on the previous Mount Blue boxcar I built and I was happy with it so I figured why change something that works.  ;D

Dave,

I have nothing but great things to say about Bill, great service and a great product, I would definitely recommend him for any custom decal work.
