The museum is really good, too.  We've been to this part of France twice.  For someone interested in Roman history & architecture, I'd argue this is almost as good as Rome.

Today'll be another 'broken' day, with someone coming to the house in a couple minutes, then a PT appointment mid-afternoon.  But that's OK, it's time for the usual post-project Pick-up/Put-away.

Good morning, Rick, Curt, Larry, Dave and those just getting up.  Sunny now on the NH seacoast, forecast for all day reaching the high 30s.  After tending the barn critters, I extended the slot the kid made for the sliding barn door so the sun can shine inside for a few hours.

Catching up on yesterday, Karl mentioned the Arizona HIghways magazine, which I used to see via the grandparents who lived in what's now my house's subscription (AFAIK they never visited the state).. So I looked it up and now I'm reading about National Parks and Monuments people tried but failed to create in AZ at www.arizonahighways.com .  Seems you can still subscribe for a paper copy also.

Today should be fairly pleasant in my attic with the layout, so I hope I make it up there.

Dave, I spent three days walking around Gettysburg and could have easily stayed a week and still not see it all.

I enjoyed my day off from the train shed. I think I was just tired. I read, took two naps, watched Perry Mason win two more court cases and then had a Diet Pepsi. Pam took me to dinner. We have enough left over for a meal this evening.

Today, I feel rested and am in the train shed.

Tom, I've done 6 Licensed Battlefield Guide talks/tours of Gettysburg, and there's a lot I haven't covered.  My favorite was an 'Artillery of Gettysburg' tour.  There was me, a friend who was a Vietnam helicopter pilot but originally trained as an artillery officer, and another friend who had been the intelligence officer in an artillery brigade.  We went to the first stop, the guide started talking about Civil War cannons in general terms.  Forrest and I looked out.  "Range about 4km?"  "Yeah, well within range for the Whitworth Rifle here." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-pounder_Whitworth_rifle - the Confederates had relatively few of these, they were the primary counter-battery weapon.) That's when the guide realized he had to seriously 'up' his talk, but he recovered well and we had a great discussion on siting, tactics, etc.  He enjoyed the challenge, guides usually don't get to talk at that level of expertise.    We went to several places including the Union artillery park and even Little Round Top, where he talked about how they got the guns up there.  He was a retired infantry officer, and we ribbed him over lunch about that. 

I've done Culp's Hill tours twice, and still don't have a full understanding of that part of the battle.  The terrain is rough and more grown over than it was Back in the Day which doesn't help.

A Gettysburg LGB talk/tour is the best money you'll ever spend on history.

How is the rest of the crew?

It's raining today with temperatures at 50°F and headed to 65°F.  We arrived home last evening after picking up Sweetie from our daughter's place.  Everything is back to normal.  We enjoyed the Gulf Coast, and the weather was nice in the 70s.

Today I plan to clean up the workbench and paintbooth, a mess from the post office project.  Perhaps I'll work on the layout a bit, too.  I didn't complete a design for the hotel, but it is in the works.

Current temperature is -9c (15f) and cloudy.  The trip home from work was longer than usual due to slushy conditions and by the time I got home, made dinner and ate it, it was late.  I did manage a little time at the bench and now I have a dish full of wood shakes and purlins cut to size.
