The Pont du Gard, Roman aqueduct in southern France:

This'll give you a better sense how big this is:

The museum is really good, too.  We've been to this part of France twice.  For someone interested in Roman history & architecture, I'd argue this is almost as good as Rome.

Today'll be another 'broken' day, with someone coming to the house in a couple minutes, then a PT appointment mid-afternoon.  But that's OK, it's time for the usual post-project Pick-up/Put-away.

Good morning, Rick, Curt, Larry, Dave and those just getting up.  Sunny now on the NH seacoast, forecast for all day reaching the high 30s.  After tending the barn critters, I extended the slot the kid made for the sliding barn door so the sun can shine inside for a few hours.

Catching up on yesterday, Karl mentioned the Arizona HIghways magazine, which I used to see via the grandparents who lived in what's now my house's subscription (AFAIK they never visited the state).. So I looked it up and now I'm reading about National Parks and Monuments people tried but failed to create in AZ at www.arizonahighways.com .  Seems you can still subscribe for a paper copy also.

Today should be fairly pleasant in my attic with the layout, so I hope I make it up there.

Morning all,

Curt, thanks for breakfast. Hope the foot is better.

Rick, enjoy the sunrise hike. Yes, I agree, it is frustrating. It happens a lot on Tuesday.

Dave, I spent three days walking around Gettysburg and could have easily stayed a week and still not see it all.

I enjoyed my day off from the train shed. I think I was just tired. I read, took two naps, watched Perry Mason win two more court cases and then had a Diet Pepsi. Pam took me to dinner. We have enough left over for a meal this evening.

Today, I feel rested and am in the train shed.

Have a safe, warm and happy day everyone.

Tom, I've done 6 Licensed Battlefield Guide talks/tours of Gettysburg, and there's a lot I haven't covered.  My favorite was an 'Artillery of Gettysburg' tour.  There was me, a friend who was a Vietnam helicopter pilot but originally trained as an artillery officer, and another friend who had been the intelligence officer in an artillery brigade.  We went to the first stop, the guide started talking about Civil War cannons in general terms.  Forrest and I looked out.  "Range about 4km?"  "Yeah, well within range for the Whitworth Rifle here." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/12-pounder_Whitworth_rifle - the Confederates had relatively few of these, they were the primary counter-battery weapon.) That's when the guide realized he had to seriously 'up' his talk, but he recovered well and we had a great discussion on siting, tactics, etc.  He enjoyed the challenge, guides usually don't get to talk at that level of expertise.    We went to several places including the Union artillery park and even Little Round Top, where he talked about how they got the guns up there.  He was a retired infantry officer, and we ribbed him over lunch about that.

I've done Culp's Hill tours twice, and still don't have a full understanding of that part of the battle.  The terrain is rough and more grown over than it was Back in the Day which doesn't help.

A Gettysburg LGB talk/tour is the best money you'll ever spend on history.

Good morning folks,

Rick, thanks for opening.  Wishing you a fantastic hike.

Curt, thanks for the coffee and breakfast.  Good luck hanging shingles.

Larry, good luck with your 1:1 activities today.

Dave, hope the cleanup goes well. What's next?

James, wishing you a fun day in the attic.

Tom, there's nothing like a good all-day rest.

How is the rest of the crew?

It's raining today with temperatures at 50°F and headed to 65°F.  We arrived home last evening after picking up Sweetie from our daughter's place.  Everything is back to normal.  We enjoyed the Gulf Coast, and the weather was nice in the 70s.

Today I plan to clean up the workbench and paintbooth, a mess from the post office project.  Perhaps I'll work on the layout a bit, too.  I didn't complete a design for the hotel, but it is in the works.

Have fun,
mike

Good morning Rick, Curt, Larry, Dave, James, ACLTom, Mike and the rest of the crew that drops in later.

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Curt, wood shakes sounds like a great choice for the roof.

Rick, enjoy your hike with Star today.

Larry, looking forward to your update.

Dave, sounds like you have a busy day planned, another great travelogue photo.

James, hope you make it to the attic today.

ACLTom, have fun in the train shed.

Mike, have fun cleaning up the workbench.

Current temperature is -9c (15f) and cloudy.  The trip home from work was longer than usual due to slushy conditions and by the time I got home, made dinner and ate it, it was late.  I did manage a little time at the bench and now I have a dish full of wood shakes and purlins cut to size.

Have a great day everyone.

Cold, teens, but sunshine and less wind.

There was a member of the old RR-L crew that had a direct connection to Perry Mason. His step father played Hamilton Burger the DA. Steve had a beautiful take on modeling middle rural Georgia.

Little to add. Making trestle pieces/parts.

My SPARTANS play hoops tonight.
Be well all. KSinthe Mitten

Good morning everyone.

It's 40 right now in Flagstaff, sunny and 68 later.

Coffee, sodas, OJ and hot chocolate are ready.
Basic two eggs any way you'd like them, crispy bacon or sausage and home fries for breakfast today.

Karl, glad to see the bridge progress.
There's a wealthy town in north Jersey called Bernardsville.
Heaven forbid you pronounce like a mans first name.
They pronounce Barn-ards-ville.

Philip, hope getting the new tags was an easy process.

Jerry, any stain hit some boards?

Ron, hopefully you'll have time tonight to start laying those shakes.

Mike, glad you enjoyed your getaway.

ACLTom, hope you made good progress in the shed.

James, hope you made progress in the attic.

Dave, it's amazing how well the Romans built those aqueducts.

Larry, should be some melting with today's warmer temps.

Curt, your kit is looking very good.

Greg, haven't seen you stop in in a long while.

TomO, hope you are well.

Yesterdays hike went well.
We did 7.76 miles and 1,142' of EG.
There's a spur off the main trail that leads to an open ended cave that's called The Subway.
It's a steep, narrow climb into it.
Star started to go up but quickly turned around and went back down.
If I'm ever back there I'll try doing it by myself.
Visiting the gym here in Flagstaff.
Then after a quick stop at Walmart I'll drive east and find a place to stay near the Petrified Forest NP.

This is from Tuesday's hike in Prescott.

Good Morning All,

Thanks for opening and breakfast Rick. Nice landscape. It sounds like Star is a smart dog.

Started out with a walk at 64F and heading to 80F later. This weekend it's supposed to get to almost 90F. :'( Yesterday I joined the store walls to the office, worked on a drain pipe for the roof tank, then did some thinking on the office and store roofing, deciding on shingles instead of tar paper.

After chores I have to drive son to get his motorcycle out of repair shop, afterwards I hope to start roofing.

Karl very nice job on the bents.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning,

Rick thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Sounds like Star's a smart dog and wonderful photo.

Looking good Karl.

Curt enjoy your build.

What's everyone else doing.

It's a clear 10 with a high of 43 so should see some melting going on. The usual Friday errands then taking Ellie out for the afternoon and a stop to Arby's for some roast beast sandwiches...yum. Not sure if I'll make it to the bench or not.

Have a great day!! Be well and stay safe.
