Howdy Larry,

The scene is coming together, with the tower and drive details in place.  Nice work!

Have fun,
mike

Quote from: Philip on July 03, 2026, 01:55:35 PMNail holes etc.... I remember a member from RLF called Trainclown (Chris) from Canada that added tiny real nails to his HO models. Was pretty convincing after he weathered the nails and holes. Talk about patients...

Had to vent.  ;)

I couldn't even imagine doing something like that in O scale let alone HO. Patience is one thing but I'd be concerned about my sanity. Lol.

Mike thank you so much. With the area being so open I wanted to have a ton of details there.

Larry,

Don't know how I missed this thread.  :o  When I saw your latest update my first thought was "he is building the tractor shed from SW".  It was only after going through your thread that I realized that it is all scratchbuilt.  I like the double towers for the belt line, that will give the scene a lot of visual interest.

After checking for room in the back of the diorama I realized I need more real estate to make it look the way I wanted it to. I added another 1.5 inches so the depth which went from 14.5 inches to 16 inches; it may not seem like a lot more but that amount seems to work. I glued the two pieces together and used weights until the glue dried then I ran a piece of duck tape along the seam underneath the diorama.

Cut another piece of foam to extend the knoll and sloped the one end before gluing into place. The I used 2 toothpicks and ran them horizontally into the two pieces and snipped off the excess. After that I grabbed 2 more toothpicks and ran them into the foam vertically then snipped off the excess flush with the top of the foam. By using the toothpicks they "locked" the original foam and the new piece together to make the diorama quite sturdy.

Next I'm making a dead roll/cutoff saw setup which will have a shed added to the unit itself. This is one of the items I wanted to add to the back of the diorama which will be visible when looking from the front to the back. Thanks for stopping by and for all your great comments and/or suggestions so stay tuned.

Looks great and yes that 1 1/2" is big, scale wise. How are you making the dead man rollers?

Glad your having fun. The 1:1 stuff is in my way again.....boooo hoo! ;D

Everything looks great Larry. Good suggestion about the toothpicks.

Larry, congratulations on the added real estate.
As I was reading your first paragraph I was thinking toothpicks and then you used them in the second paragraph.  ;D

Larry C

Philip thanks. The dead rolls with the cutoff saw is a Sierra West kit; the same one I used a few years ago when I built the saw mill.

Curt thank you so much.

Rick thanks. I guess great minds think alike. I've used them before as anchors in foam and they work very well.

Howdy Larry,

Good job extending the diorama.  It was clever to add tape to the underside for long-term durability.  Good luck with the saw kit.

Have fun,
mike

Larry C

Thanks Mike. I figured the tape would hold things together until the glue dried.
