I visited Leadville once, and would definitely like to go back.  It was just a long day's drive around that part of Colorado, so not a lot of time to see things. 

After hearing the stories about mountain rescues here in the White Mountains, I do worry when Rick heads out on a solo climb.  (NH now offers 'rescue insurance'.  It's cheap.  But if you don't have it, have an accident, and get rescued, you'll get billed.)

Thanks for the coffee and breakfast Rick.  If I need to work on Fridays, I work from home, my goal is to work only 4 days a week but working in construction, that is hard to do.  At least my days working on the road is done. 😊  Enjoy your hike tomorrow and be careful.

Jaime, with your luck with plumbing, letting the professionals do it is sound judgement.  Hopefully it will be a cheap fix.

Curt, looks like you had a very busy day yesterday and the skunks sound like a handful.  Hopefully today will be more relaxing.

Current weather is 19c (66f) cloudy with a 40% chance of showers.  We did get some rain yesterday as I was driving home from work.

While I did make it to the bench last night, I didn't get as must done on the turntable as I wanted as I got distracted.  I only have one thing left to do and the turntable is complete.  Guess what I'll be doing today.

Jaime any day you get $$ is a good one. Hope the toilet fix goes easily and the "bucks", no not the 4 legged kind, isn't too much.

Rick nice photo!! Good luck with the next 14'er; enjoy and be safe. Veggies consisted of sweet corn which was excellent, tomatoes, and a green pepper to be cut up for the freezer. Oh ya thanks for the coffee and breakfast.

Curt good luck getting the dishwasher "skunk proofed" and glad the little critter didn't get seriously hurt. Have fun at the bench.

Dave sounds like the insurance wouldn't be a bad thing to have just in case things ever went sideways.

Jerry hope you can squeeze in some bench time.

What's your plans?

It's another sunny 71 with a high of 81. Spent yesterday afternoon trying to tear apart an old wood stove my parents had that has been sitting in my garage way too long. Removed enough weight so I could move it; barely. This am I used 2 homemade planks, 2x10's, and managed to get the stove onto them at the back of my SUV. Long story short I was able to get it into the vehicle, barely, by flipping it on its end then it's top. Drove to the recycler where I had help dropping it on the pavement so a "skid steer" could pick it up and over a wall into a bin. I'm pooped; not in my 40's any more. Maybe some bench time this afternoon.

An extremely early good morning to everyone.

I don't have accurate numbers for the current temps here on the mountain but it's supposed to be a beautiful day and get into the low 60's.
As usual for here, rain possible in the PM.

I don't want your coffee and breakfast to get cold before the rest of the crew shows up, so I'll let the next person in get that ready.

Larry, glad you got that stove out and to the recycler without too much of a problem.

Ron, hope you got that one thing done.

Greg, the Leadville 100 dirt bike race is happening today.
There was a large outdoor expo of bike, apparel and nutrition exhibitors so I spent time walking through.
Between that and then going to the Leadville RR, I ran out of time to go to the museum.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Dave, a helicopter rescue off of a mountain can cost up to $25K and the insurance sure would be beneficial.
I should look into getting it.

Curt, glad the little guy is OK and you've made changes so it won't happen again.

Jamie, hope the toilet is fixed and wasn't too much of your Friday payday.

How's everyone else.

I've already posted what I did most of the day yesterday.
Rest of the day was spent getting here to the trailhead.
There's a trailhead at the bottom of the mountain, but there's a 2 mile 4X4 road you can take that shortens the hike by 3-4 miles and 500-600' of climbing.
I got about half way up that road before I came to an extremely rutted section I wasn't comfortable attempting .
Just by chance there was a campsite there and I pulled in.
There was already someone there and he told me was leaving shortly so I stayed.
It's not very level but amazingly there is cell service here.
Very excited to do this 14er because it's the one I've most wanted to do.
My friend is having foot problems so he won't be going but his girlfriend will join me as will Star.

This is at the trailhead for the Grays and Torres Trail.

Howdy.

The toilet was fixed. I am glad of that. We are not on city water. We have a well. Everyone out in my "neighborhood" does. Often, this well water is hard on metal plumbing fixtures. I called a guy about installing a pH water neutralizer (acid neutralizer tank) and maybe shocking the well after the plumber that came to fix the toilet suggested that. Life in rural America is an adventure.

No breakfast ready yet at the "homestead". However, the Kureg machine is plugged in there are plenty of K-cups around here :-)

Starting out here drinking coffee before getting a bowl of cereal. If you want something else it's in the pantry or fridge. Help yourselves.

Yesterday didn't go quite as planned at the workbench because I screwed up a clapboard wall. I looked in my stash and of course I don't have any except in "O" scale- don't ask. So, I need to make a trip to the LHS and hopefully they have some. If I don't go today my next opportunity will be Wednesday.

Nothing much else happening this way.

Jaime glad the repair went OK.

Rick glad the campsite worked out for you. Enjoy the hike and be safe; great you'll have some human company for this one. Surprisingly enough I managed to get the stove gone without messing up my lower back.

Jaime I feel your pain. We're on a well and have a septic tank w/ leech field; being independent out in the country is fine ut it's something more to keep an eye on. Glad you hear you to things squared away.

Curt thanks for the coffee and breakfast. Sometimes modeling can be a real adventure; hope you find what you're looking for.

It's another sunny day @ 61 with a high of 80. This weather has been gorgeous so far this month. Maybe some bench time this morning but not sure about the rest of the day.

Jaime, we had a water softener/neutralizer for our house with well water in NJ.  That was located just on the north edge of the Pine Barrens aquifer, so the water access was great, but it was quite acidic.  The plumber pointed to the blue stains on the sink and said, "That's your pipes being eaten away by your water." 

Weather in SE NH is perfect.  55-79, sunny, low humidity.  Scotch Club will reconvene after 2 weeks off, due to travel and rain.  One guy's back from UK with a new bottle to try (Isle of Harris), so the theme today will be island malts.  (I'll bring one of my bottles of Isle of Raasay.)

Until then, I'll hit the exercise machine and then putz with more scenery.

Good morning from my little part of Wisconsin. 66f degrees now heading to 85 with a small possibility of very needed rain. Yesterday's rain event in the afternoon barely dampened the concrete. The media guessers were rejoicing we were going to get a needed rainfall. Our area didn't get enough to even consider a trace in the rain gauge.

I didn't realize I haven't been here for a couple days.

We were on well water and septic system up in northern Wisconsin and for this City kid it took some getting used to. The water was excellent but needed to be yearly tested. We learned the hard way the do and don't of owning a septic system. Ours failed completely at the 20 year mark and being on the water's edge (Lake DuBay) it was costly. Thankfully we had enough room for the new leech field and didn't need a mound system. Now the new DNR regulations would prevent a normal system. If we build where Terry wants a new place it will be on a well and septic but I think we are ok here

Rick, all your pictures here and on your FB page have been outstanding. For all the hiking you and Star do I'm surprised that you don't have that insurance but happy you've never needed it. Who watches the house while you're gone now that you are a homeowner again?

Spent yesterday morning with friends at a local layout work session. The 2 layouts we alternate working on Fridays are 2 contrasts in organization and authority. One is a bit chaotic and the other overly organized both reflecting the way their owners live their life's. Neither is bad just different.

This afternoon we (the grandson) are heading to a hastily organized local Ops Session. I was looking at the notes this week we helped build this layout in a remodeled dairy barn in September of 2023. From a basic blank slate to full operation in 10 weeks. An Ops session for the crews who helped build it in January of 2024 and until last month, nothing! He just didn't work on it and when we asked why no progress he always said, no interest. Last month he stopped by my new workshop and he asked me to come over and see what we needed to do to get it running again. Turned out to be basically nothing other than track and locomotive wheel cleaning. 5 of us that day cleaned track and wheels and ran for a few hours. He has 5 of those heavy brass track cleaning cars and I have set of 3 Blunami DCC equipped battery on board diesels that don't need track electricity so the first train was the one I ran. One lap and the cleaning pads on the 2 cars I was pulling needed changing. 2 of the other guys also have the Power on Board and followed my train. We ran 3 trains back to back with cleaning cars. The spurs were done by hand. The other 2 guys cleaned wheels on his diesels and we finished that afternoon testing the electrical. Minor annoying things but he has been running he said yesterday daily since. He has had a couple of the guys who are the "experts" come over and check his operating system and today we will try it out. Full CTC to get around the layout. We were told yesterday we could bring a guest and the grandson said at dinner last night he'll come. I almost fell over when I said the 2 guys I asked couldn't make it and he volunteered!

Current weather here is a balmy 19c (67f) and sunny and for once no rain in the forecast.

I made it to the workbench last night and finished building the turntable so the building process is completed, one of the easiest builds I have done.  Need to cut the grass and take Gracie for a walk today.  I then I think I need to plan how I'll install the turntable in place.

We just arrived from Seattle after spending a few days with family and cruising to Alaska. I am too old for this kind of trip, but all went well.

I see a lot of fun posts, and I will get to them tomorrow.  For now, I am headed to bed.
