Larry,

The diorama is really coming together. It is amazing how much a little scenery adds to the scene.  Oh, and it's looking great.

Been doing some work on the boat recently. I decided to paint a red stripe around the boat which quite frankly scared the crap out of me; didn't want to mess things up. I carefully masked off the boards I wanted painted red then carefully brushed on a tomato red around the entire boat. I also named the boat after my wife: Miss Ellie.

Here you can see the name of the boat on the side. Also added a spotlight and side marked lights on the roof.

Added some interior details like the boat wheel, a dashboard of sorts, and gauges made from 2 paper punch circles; thought some details to the "wheelhouse" would look good. All the details are from French River models.

Added a nice detail with the "bit" and "anchor"in the bow; both were spray painted with black primer. Then I wrapped a length of brown heavy thread around the bit then attached the other end to the anchor before gluing both in place. Between the anchor and wheelhouse I'll add a hatch where the live lobsters/fish will be held in the hull.

This is what the overall diorama looks like so far. I am going to add another rounded 8x8 along the front of the dock to hang some old tires on to protect the sides of the boat. Also I'll continue detailing the back of the boat's inside. Thanks for stopping by and for all your great comments and very helpful suggestions.

Been spending some time detailing the boat. Added the spotlight and side marker lights to the roof. Next was the "life ring" painted and glued to the side of the wheelhouse. Broke out my new fine brushes to paint the ropes which was much easier. I also dry brushed some light brown chalk to the outside of the boat to "dirty" it up a little.

IMG_062.jpg

After watching "The Deadliest Catch" on the Discovery channel for years I decided to add a hatch in the bow so the live lobsters/fish could be stored in the hull in water to keep them alive. I used 4x4's for the base, 110# paper, and 1x6's for the top; also added 2 hinges at the back and a handle at the front made from a cut down staple. Everything was colored with clear alcohol and chalks then dry brushed a little rust on the hinges and handle. Also added 2 "bits" on the port side with rope (heavy brown thread) added. My idea is once the harbor colors are blended, the water is added, and the boat glued in place then I'll tie off the boat to the dock. The tread is probably way longer than I need but it's much easier to handle than shorter pieces.

This is the stern where I added 3 lobster traps and a steel drum. So now the boat is pretty much finished with the exception of a LP or two which I'll order once the diorama is nearer completion.

Next I'll be going back to dry land and add a railing by the stairs. After that I'll be designing a small house for the lighthouse keeper to live in. Thanks for stopping by and for all your great comments and suggestions that's keeping me going.

You need some lobstuh buoys attached to those traps (coiled ropes), so they're ready to be tossed overboard.
