As I alluded to in the "Baggage Car - Daily Chat" that I had bought my fourth CNC machine.

https://modelersforum.com/index.php?topic=7799.0 Message #7.

I'll use this thread to get into a bit of detail on using these machines.

First though let's see what it is, looks like and is capable of.

First a look at the machine from Makera. I purchased the Makera Carvera Air. They make two others that look similar. The Carvera Desktop CNC which comes with a six tool automatic tool changer and the Makera Z1 a cheaper version of the other two and not as ridged as the first two.

Here are two videos showing what they can do. This first guy has done an excellent job describing why I'll never use or own a 3D printer or laser.

This second video is what it cut on the 4th axis that sold me. It looks like I'll be able to cut steam engine wheels. Scroll to the 20:27 minuet mark.

I looked at this machine when it started out on Kick-Starter but decided to wait a while to get some of the kicks worked out, which they do have on a new product.

Right now I'm at Northern Command and can't wait to get home and try and come up with an explanation for the wife.  :)

Quick update on my new Makera Carvera Air CNC desk-top machine. It arrived last Friday while I was at Northern Command and I got it into the basement and unpacked Monday. This thing is heavy at 100lbs. While still in the box with all the extras it's well over 100lbs. It was quite a workout getting down the flight of stairs on a wheeled cart. But I made and got it up on a table for now. To save you guys of looking up the price of the machine and all the tooling that came with it, it was $2797.00.

I had looked at this machine when it was in it's fund raising phase and decided not to get it at that point. Let them work the bugs out of it so I purchased the Shapeoko Nomad 3 instead. But I just couldn't resist the fourth axis, which the Nomad 3 doesn't have. Makes the Air much more versatile.

This is a picture of all the accessories that come with the package deal.

After getting it unbox and set on the table I was baffled by the following picture in the "Unboxing Guide".

I couldn't find no voltage switch where they say it's supposed to be.

So I fired off an e-mail to tech support with the above two pictures. I figured I won't hear from them for several days if not weeks. The very next day I had the answer in my e-mail. The voltage sets automatically. I had suspected that but needed a confirmation if that was the case.

Up next is a new laptop with Windows 11. The old laptop isn't capable of running Windows 11.

That's where things stand at the moment. I'll up date as I make progress of getting this set up on the workbench next to Nomad 3. That may take a while.
