Kit Building / Re: Suydam 2 Stall Engine House

Bernd,

I read somewhere in one of your threads that you plan on making steel I-beams for a build, just not sure if this build is the one. Would you be making a mold to pour them in resin?  Just a thought. Carry on, nice work!

You're doing a great job with this kit. I have kits, but I prefer to scratchbuild over building a kit.
That's just me. This way, if a mistake happens, you can always blame the manufacturer!  ;D

You have come a long way since I last saw this project. Everything looks good from here.
Your glue stick is a great way of doing that part without marring up the adjacent sides. Thanks

I started a gallery of my pictures, that said, everything I added to that gallery uploaded fine.
How do you begin a new gallery of pictures for another thread that you would like to post, without having newly
added pictures go into the first gallery? Is this when you want to name a sub-category? And do you keep naming additional sub-category's for each new thread? Any help will be totally appreciated. Thanks in advance

Bernd,
After re-reading your entire thread this morning, I have some thoughts regarding this type of modeling.
I will never build in metal, I probably will never buy a CNC machine, or a metal lathe, or a Suydam kit.
I did learn several tips that I can adapt to my way of modeling using other materials and the sequences
involved regarding "what to do and when" steps.
But, Your work is over the top and that engine house is a keeper. If by chance someone does end up with
this other than Dan, it will definitely be a foreground model!
Can't wait to see more of your expert projects.

Holy framer, Batman! What a nice way to cut precise angles in your woodstock.
I'll have to borrow a form of your concept to use in a future build. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.

Fellow modelers, this man learned the basics from his machinist Father, back when sons actually worked with their Dads to learn a trade. Bernd has followed in his Dad's footsteps throughout his life and his accomplishments are many. He's not happy unless the final product gets tweaked to perfection. You might be in for more treats from this super modeler.

Craig,

I returned a few days ago and am posting when I can free up some time.
I have been following all of your builds, and your modeling is impressive.
It's hard to critique your builds.

Quote from: deemery on January 14, 2025, 10:48:44 AMWell, I'm learning a lot from this thread, starting with "probably not a kind of kit I want to build"  ;D  But the lessons on approaching metal work/soldering are still useful.

dave

That's one reason why these kits are so cheap at railroad shows. Many seem scared of soldering.

Bernd

Very interesting! And I must admit I'm with both of you gents. First, with Dave on not wanting to construct this type of metal kit. And Bernd for not wanting to solder large projects of this caliber. I'm ok +/- with small solder joints but not this. BTW, I will continue following this but I spilled my popcorn and the dang dog got it!

Tom,
You are absolutely a determined individual to possess dexterity in the cutting of your stringers.
I too, have cut my own and patience is required. I hate it when I get hasty and slice a piece off where it shouldn't be.
Great modeling and an excellent How-to. Thanks for sharing your skills.

The HO / HOn3 / HOn30 Line / Re: HOn30 Tribute Diesels

It's nice to see you constructing these here Bernd. Perhaps those interested in similar projects will be following you. Though I won't be modeling in any scale other than HO, I will be looking in from time to time to get some tips. I'll take a seat in the back. Maybe I can help with adult beverages & popcorn. Let the fun begin.
