Good morning.

Mid-40's here at the moment with a forecast high in the mid 50's.  Rain tonight turning to a rain snow mix and either rain or snow or both continuing through the weekend.  We need the precipitation, so no complaints from me except I'll miss the unseasonably warm weather we've had thus far this month.

I'm working on two projects, a freight house for the layout, and putting a metal roof on an O&W boxcar.  I'm using styrene to construct the roof with Tichy parts to support the running board.

I hope everyone has a safe and rewarding day!

Good morning.

Foggy and frosty start to the day, with a forecast high near fifty degrees.  Tomorrow's forecast is about the same, then reality sets in as we will have more seasonable temperatures, as in colder with some of the white stuff making its presence known.

I did get a little modeling done yesterday, but have to admit I spent much of the day once again falling down the freight car research rabbit hole.  I've been slipping down the slippery slope into research mode already this morning and need to break the cycle if I am going to get any modeling done today.

I hope everyone has a safe and productive day!

Here's the next set of photos, with once again a small amount of progress.

Good morning.

Jeff, glad to read that you are improving.

The day started here with the temperature about half of Jim's forecast high.  I went down the rabbit hole of research yesterday looking for information on NYO&W boxcars.  I realized I had probably gotten too engrossed when i saw it was midnight.  I hope to avoid that today and spend some time actually modeling.

The farmer that is working my ground has started bringing his equipment this morning so he can combine the corn he grew on my fields.  I'll have something to watch today when I am not modeling.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable day!

Bob,

I always enjoy how thorough you are when documenting each step in a build thread and this was no exception.

Steve,

I'm sad to hear you are going to dismantle your layout.  I have long admired your modeling, not only your amazing craftsmanship, but especially your ability to compose realistic scenes on the layout.  I see more and more diorama modeling being posted, especially on Facebook.  Given the size, complexity and details included in some of the largest available kits I understand the desire to eschew a layout to build kits.  I hope you will continue to post your modeling here for us to enjoy.

I thought I would post a few more progress photos.  Nothing too exciting, but a little more progress.

Bob,

Thanks for stopping in and leaving a nice comment.  Any thoughts about starting your own layout now that you are retired?

Quote from: Jerry on November 13, 2024, 09:53:50 AMVery nice Jerry.  At first I thought you were selling the RR!! ;)

Jerry
Jerry,

Considering how many listings I have seen on Facebook Marketplace where people are listing layouts for sale that might not be a bad idea.  Quite a few are asking high three or low four figures for some bare plywood, track, and plastic buildings.  I wonder if I could generate enough money to move someplace warmer for the winter...

Quote from: deemery on November 13, 2024, 09:40:34 AMJerry, a clever idea using those 'for sale' signs as protections.  I've used 'sensitive locations' masking tape to hold wax paper over my backdrops when doing scenery, etc.

dave
Dave,

The signs are not a perfect solution, sculptamold does stick to them despite the slick finish, but the help keep damage to the backdrop to a minimum.  I like the wax paper idea, I will borrow that for a few spots if you don't mind.

Quote from: Zephyrus52246 on November 13, 2024, 08:32:22 AMThe track looks great.  I've been coloring some ties recently as well.  Using about 5 colors, mixing, etc.  Tedious, but doing 3 to 4 feet at a time isn't too bad.

Jeff
Jeff,

I have settled on using three colors when painting ties, though I do use the same brush, so they get blended together somewhat as I paint.  I agree, somewhat tedious, but worth it IMO.

Quote from: Mark Dalrymple on November 12, 2024, 09:46:27 PMComing on nicely. Jerry.

I always look forward to the winter here.  Those pesky weeds stop growing - along with the lawns - and I find myself with a bit of a respite.  Great for modelling!

Cheers, Mark.
Mark,

Thanks for looking in, I hope to continue working on the layout, though I often get distracted building rolling stock.

Good morning.

Pretty quiet here this morning.  Not sure what I'll get up to today outside of watching some football.

I hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning.

Overcast start this morning to what is forecast to be a sunny day.  I was considering a road trip, but it looks like a better day to stay home.  Nothing exciting recently except I have my computer working after a couple days of problems.  Not sure I trust that it is "fixed", but it is working at the moment.  Fingers crossed it keeps on working.

I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable day!
