Kit Building / FOS Scale Quinn Elbow
July 11, 2024, 08:32:57 AM
FOS Scale kits are always a pleasure to build.

I decided to make their Quinn Elbow into a 2 inch deep fish market.

Photos attached.

I've always liked the lines of this kit.

Finally started it.

It goes together easily.  No surprises.

Dioramas / 3rd Business Card Diorama
May 22, 2020, 05:37:13 PM
My parents were part of the people who left the Oklahoma/Arkansas region during the depression in the 1930s.

The shack we lived in when I was very young still exists today.

The size was 9 feet wide and 20 feet long.  No indoor plumbing.

A shack that size will fit on a standard business card in HO.

Here is my version of my childhood home.

Dioramas / Business Card Size Diorama
May 22, 2020, 05:28:25 PM
A small group of friends are having a friendly contest for building a small diorama on a base the size of a business card.

That seems like such a small area but there is much that can be done in that space.

Here is one of the dioramas I am working on.

Kit Building / HO Model Power Rooming House addition
December 30, 2019, 12:08:28 PM
I pulled an old plastic kit off the shelf to build as a second building attached to another building with an overhead passageway.  The plastic kit was the Rooming House in Ho by Model Power.  The same kit has been offered by many different companies over the years.

Kit Building / HO Tom Yorke Pool Hall and Bordello
September 24, 2019, 08:25:19 AM
Back in the late 1970s, Tom Yorke produced a classic model, his Pool Hall and Bordello.

After stalling for 40 years, I finally built his kit and found it to be a great pleasure to build.

The back side shows the excellent stone carving done by Tom.

For the corrugated siding I used Paper Creek Models paper.  When Paper Creek closed down I scanned their sheets into my  computer.  One nice thing about doing it this way is that I can control the color of the rusted metal and I can also use my photo editing program to add signs directly to the printed material.

I thought about making the larger building a hotel but ending up calling it Goldy's Place.

Kit Building / Build Challenge 2016 Yankee Girl Mine in HO
September 24, 2016, 07:26:40 PM
I failed to take step by step photos but I thought I would share my progress on my HO scale Yankee Girl Mine.  This is not an accurate scale model but simply something I am building for a new HOn30 layout.

Board by board.  The odd looking corrugated siding on the roof is from a problem that comes from photographing Paper Creek Models roofing paper.  I think the phrase is it creates a Morie pattern.
