That's what I did for the first Hickory NNGC convention.  Wife had family near Henderson, NC, I dropped her off and went to the convention.  That's the time, though, where the camera battery charger destroyed the camera batteries, so the only photos I got were from my cell phone.

Jim, you're right!  Sorry about that!  (I didn't like how the roof came out, so today I'll try cutting new roof panels, from a different material.  And then I'll post the results to the CORRECT thread.)

Morning all,

Still raining here, though it looks like it will stop for the rest of the week.  My sumps are certainly running a lot.  The grass has exploded, but it's too wet to mow.  I'll have to set the blade at it's highest tomorrow and then probably mow it consecutive days lowering the blade each time.  

Yesterday morning I had an appointment with the orthopedist about my knee.  He thinks we need an MRI, which is what I told the PA back in July. 

Slow layout work continues, but some progress is being made.

It's a clear and chilly 45 with a high of 68; sure feels like Fall to me; which is tomorrow btw. Haven't seen the bench in a few days due to 1:1 stuff, starting to feel like Jerry, but maybe today. Have to get my hairs cut later this am then need to touch base with the Bank. This afternoon I need to load up my lawn cart with firewood and stick out by the road and see if anyone wants free wood.

Good morning, Rick. I'm off to Maine for more track work in a bit.  Interesting to see that whatever contractor the RR has hired to spread ties has their train set up to plow snow in the winter (off-season for ties, you only replace what you absolutely have to when ground is frozen).

Good morning, Jaime and those on the way. The lower Merrimack Valley is overcast and in the mid-50s now, with sun and mid-60s forecast for midday.  Chickens are out and fed, and no Pawpaws to pick up.  I'm off for more track work at Seashore in a bit, so I'll put a basket of Beacons on the counter and leave the rest of our apples to my wife.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear a crossing tender had a sideline, but it's drilled into RR employees to be ready for a train on any track at any time. Their shanties usually didn't have toilets but did have dispatcher's line phones to get permission to go down the street or wherever.

Belgium waffle maker is plugged in and ready to go with a bowl of batter next to it.
Sides of bacon and/or sausage with real Wisconsin butter and authentic Vermont maple syrup.

How's everyone else?

Got some things done inside and backed up more photos.
Stopped raining long enough to take Star for a walk.
There's a rail line about 2-300' from my house.
Around 2 to 4 trains come through on an average day.
I've walked with Star on the tracks to the next grade crossing a few times and noticed the poor condition of many of the ties.
Yesterday a MOW train arrived and unloaded new ties.

I have an afternoon appointment with the urologist to remove the stent.
