I tried to add a green flock/grass base over top of the existing shrubbery, by stippling matte medium and then applying the grass.   It's a mixture of a relatively bright green and a moss green color:

It's better, but I'm not quite convinced it's green enough.  It's really tough to apply grasses, etc to a vertical slope.  I'll have to work on that.

The tractor is outstanding Larry.

So here's what's powering the belt line.....an old John Deere tractor....and of course I had to paint it green.

Tabitha O'Neil wanted to update the power for both the saw and the lathe. After removing the old steam engine, the leaky boiler, and the worn out water tank she stumbled across this old tractor in the next town over which still ran remarkably well given its age.Since the cutoff saw and lathe wouldn't both be in use at the same time she felt confident the tractor would fit the bill and take up much less room at the back of her property.

The John Deere is a kit from Sierra West and went together fairly easily; even though the 3D printed parts are quite fragile. Before assembly everything was given a coat of grey primer and when dry was spray painted green. Brett had suggested in the instruction a yellow color for the wheels but I didn't like the color for them so everything was painted green with a few exceptions such as the seat, steering wheel, exhaust pipe, and the top of the air filter; those I left primer grey.Then the green areas were given a dry brushing of brown chalks and the grey parts with a little black.

To make life easier I added grasses to the side of the knoll and laid down the basic ground cover under the tractor before anything was glued in place. I'm pleased with the way this turned out.

Next will be to line up the tractor pulley and the belt line pulley then glue the line one in place. The tractor will be glued to the layout. A 6 inch belt will be cut from Tyvek then painted. When everything has dried hopefully it all goes together as I hope it will. Thanks for stopping by for a look-see and for all your great comments so stay tuned.

As I recall, the 'original model' was a contest-winning model by Canadian modeler Jock Oliphant, which was written up in the model magazines the year it won at NMRA.

Thanks for opening and breakfast Mike. I hope there won't be sticker shock on the Z3.

Today started at the VA for a large blood draw (probably close to 10 tubes) followed by a so-so restaurant breakfast then taking Dad on his weekly errands. After getting back home I spent a couple of hours at the workbench. MOH should be back home from SC in about an hour.

Friday Dad has a VA appointment in the morning.

Hi everyone, I just finished building this FSM's coaling tower and I thought I would share some photos of it with you here.
I did not do a build on it because a build of it was already done by a member named Opa George.
I found it to be very helpful when I was building mine.
Though he did not cover the building of the sand house & machinery shed in his build.

This coaling tower is based on a real prototype in Winnipeg, Manitoba used and built by the Canadian National Railway in Canada.
I found it to be one of the more difficult kits that I have built from Fine Scale Miniatures line of kits.
I switched out the Campbell's shingles that come with the kit for corrugated metal roofing instead.
I also added LED lighting to my tower, as I do with all of my builds.
I plan to use this on my layout so I did not ballast the track yet, or do any other scenery work on it yet.
I figured it would be better to do that stuff once I am ready to install it into my layout.
So here is how it all came out looking upom completion.
