I started a gallery of my pictures, that said, everything I added to that gallery uploaded fine.
How do you begin a new gallery of pictures for another thread that you would like to post, without having newly
added pictures go into the first gallery? Is this when you want to name a sub-category? And do you keep naming additional sub-category's for each new thread? Any help will be totally appreciated. Thanks in advance

Rich;

You have it figured out. After you have a gallery in place and want a area for a thread just add a subcategory (I just use the thread name) and then make sure you upload to that subcategory when uploading pictures of that thread. I suggest doing a test subcategory to make sure you got it before starting a thread area.

I've been uploading image files for each post as I compose it.  I recall this being how the old Modelers Forum worked, and Kitforums before that. I'll take a look at galleries, but from a forum operations PoV, is there a practical reason to prefer one or the other?

I've also been scaling images down to about 1024 pixels wide (or high), out of respect for disk space.  Is this good citizenship, or is there a size recommendation I haven't found yet?

Here is a tutorial I wrote for uploading photos:

There is currently a 5mb upload limit on photos. There is no need to resize images except to be under the limit in order to successfully upload but your consideration for disk space Is appreciated!

Is there a recommended pixel height and width limit to be aware of when posting images?

I believe 1024px or 1080px is standard for websites and forums. I format all my pictures from 4000px the camera takes to 1080px for posting on the forum.

I've notice when I " drag and drop" an image into the outlined bar,a box shows up that allows setting of the size of the posted image.

This far I've used 1000 as width, and 800 as height with reasonable results

I've noticed that feature too, but it "feels" to me like it's just setting the display size.  Pending confirmation from Rusty, I'll continue resizing images in my photo program (DigiKam, runs on Windows, macOS and Unix variants with the same on-disk format. I back up by just copying the directory structure over).

I use PhotoScape X Pro to do all my photos. I remember reading somewhere that forums like the 1080px width for posting pictures.

On the Mac, I use Photos.app.  When I export a photo, I set the quality to Medium and use a custom size, max dimension 1100 pixels:
