Morning all, I'll open up. I need to get my hair cut this morning, and then get ready for the big storm coming later today. Can't wait for the snow flake by snow flake coverage by the local weather weenies..

Morning, all.

Our snow is due Monday evening to Tuesday, when of course I have to work.   >:(

Every year I build one of these Proto 2000 tank car kits to test my physical abilities.  Tiny black parts fitted into tiny black holes on a black background is quite a challenge for those of us who are not so young.  But I passed the test again this year.   8)

Raining in Orlando today so a little Cadd work and dome bench time. I'll continue adding flooring/decking to the SWSM Sawmill build

Good morning.

Dan, I can barely remember when I had enough hair to make a haircut worthwhile.

Dr. Jeff and Terry, great pics to start the day.  I'll add one of my own.

Like Dan, I'm waiting or the snow to start so the weather guessers on TV can get all excited.

I hope everyone has a safe and productive day!

Morning everyone

Thanks for the opening pictures today.

Here in South Jersey the "WEATHER WEENIES" are predicting rain!!

Hopefully after a couple of errands there will be some bench time.

Everyone have a wonderful day!!  :)

Morning all,

Great pictures this morning.

Like Terry noted it's raining in Central Florida this morning.  Warmish, but raining.  Think I'll settle down for an afternoon workbench session after a bite to eat for lunch.

Have a great one!

Jerry, a great car from my modeling period.  Those end truss rods are rarely modeled.

Weather critters keep on changing their minds for tonight's snow.  Looks like 8"-10" right now.  But what has me worried is heavy rain later this week.  Rain on top of snow makes for significant/heavy roof loadings and failure.

I'm making progress on the brickworks. half-glued the walls together.

Next steps include adding the corner and wall top (frieze) trim, then painting the walls the brick color.  I primed the window/door castings white, I'll see how white windows look against the brick walls, and then decide if I want to change the trim colors.

(I find having to go up to the "Reply" button at the top of the page, rather than the 'quick reply' at the bottom, to be really annoying, particularly since We Love Pictures.)

Good afternoon.  There is a lot of glue drying on the Superior & Seattle Railroad, today.  I'm in one of those time periods where I just want to build stuff.  I just came out of the train room for lunch.  I hope everyone has a great day.

I just looked out the window - no snow to plow here, so far.

Dave,

That was my first time putting the end truss rods on a boxcar.  i used .010 brass wire and short queen posts along with some pieces of styrene to hold the ends of the truss rod.  I had to "play" with the bends in the wire where it goes over the queen posts until I got them right.

Your brick works is coming along nicely, looking forward to your progress.

You do not have to go to the top of the page for the "reply" button, using the one below the last post (and just above the "Quick Reply") allows you to post photos.

Afternoon Everyone;

Just had a chance to stop by and catch up on the news. The weather in Central Florida is now back to sunny and I have the garage door open, feels great. I spent the day cleaning up the work bench, it is amazing how much you find that at one time you were looking everywhere for. At least most of the stuff is back in the right stuff spots. so hope to begin work on latest project tomorrow while watching football. Hope everyone has a great day.

Good Evening All,

For some reason I thought today was Sunday and that no one had started the baggage car today...SMH. :o

Today I did several chores then finished up the FOS freebee kit that Jeff just finished. I won't be putting it on the layout because the doo :o rs are out of scale for HO.

Jeff great job on the tank car.

Jerry great job also on the box car.

Terry beautiful job on the flooring.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Curt,

I, too, dislike the size of the doors Doug uses on many of his kits.  I find they are not necessarily out of scale, rather they are sized as semi truck doors, and thus look out of place to me for my chosen era.  I usually add some filler to the top of the door area and either make new doors or cut his to what I see as a more representative size.

I do not have this free kit so I cannot measure the doors, but I think if you add a piece of plastic or thin card stock across the top section of the doors so the top windows are covered the building will look better to you.  I would print a sign to place on the card stock so it looks like it belongs on the building.

Just a thought.
