Here is what the town of Chester looked like the day after Wayne and I spent the day.

It sure looks like Frank is getting ready for some serious tree planting.

Wayne is going to stay on here for another month soaking up the sun and having fun with Frank.

I'm going to have to head back to Michigan - I got one of those phone calls today - My Uncle Jay "And Fishing buddy" has to have open heart surgery as soon as they can get him stable and in the operating room. Family duty calls so the Jeep is headed North East.  Cold weather here we come.

Looks like another tough winter in AZ  ;)

I love the SRMW build, thats such an interesting and unique subject and kit. Great build, as always, too!

John

Thanks John for stopping by. Yup, another wonderful winter in Arizona. But, we have to remember that summer is just around the corner. Well almost. Glad you liked the Hookers structure. I didn't make too many changes. The most obvious is the angle between the main building and the wood structures. Fits nice around the curved road. Still have to do a few more details. Everything is off the town of Chester while I install trees. John and Wayne were a great help with this project. Still many , many more trees to go, but I have the technique down thanks to those guys.

John,

Safe travels my friend. Drive slowly and keep the sunny side up. I'll be in the train room making trees. I'll also be calling Wayne for a planting day real soon. It's kind of weird working in Chester with all the buildings sitting on the floor. One has to be real careful where you walk!!! Enjoy the trip back home. Thanks again for all your help with the trees.

Chris,

Thanks for stopping by. Yes I am planting trees, probably for the next week or so. This layout is going to require a lot of them. i'll be posting some more pictures later in the week.

Good Morning All,

Since John Siekirk and his buddy Wayne were here, I have been working on a very small town on the layout called "Great Notch". It backs up against the town of Chester. so, besides trees on the hillside, I am adding rocks, lots of rocks. I make them from crushed plaster left over from casting. I break them up into small pieces, spray them with a variety of colors, sort them by size and then glue them into place where needed. As you might imagine, that can be a lot of gluing. I still have a lot of ground foam to add as well to fill in several voids. The road will disappear into the trees when completed. I have also included a shot with all the support stuff used in this process. All the buildings are on the floor. that is the scary part. I don't let anyone in while they are on the floor!

Frank,

The trees and scenery are looking very good, I mean great. No grass under your feet either is there? Keep planting.

Thanks Tom,

Today I was making more trees and I'm going to be making more tomorrow. I can't wait to put the building back in place. As I mentioned, they are on the floor. I've already had to catch my wife before she backed into one. that would not have been fun. So, that being said, I'll keep planting.

Looking great Frank! The thought of those great structures on the floor makes me crazy. My advice is to move them to higher safer ground before proceeding.

John,

I agree, There is really no safe place for the structures but somewhere high. Perhaps I can convince the wife to use the dining room table for a week or so!!!! I"ll let you know how that works out.

Wayne called today. his company left today and his son is arriving tomorrow. He is going to call me the week after next to let me know what days would be good to get together and plant more trees. He was worried that I might not have enough trees done. silly thought!!!

Okay, another photo of progress over the past couple of days. Almost finished with the rock slide and trees in this area. It's amazing how many trees go into a small scene. Mind you, I did not count them, but there are many, many trees. Just ask John and Wayne. speaking of john's buddy Wayne. he called yesterday to let me know that he would be available week after next to help me with more trees. I guess I know what I will be doing all of next week. MAKING TREES!!!

Have a great weekend.

Another progress photo of trees in Chester / Great Notch. Purchased some more track this morning and upon my return home, got into making more trees. So-o-o, progress is being made. I am amazed how many trees are required to fill a relatively small area. I can only imagine what John ( S&S) has used on his layout. At least I am not using rocks like John does! I need to cut and clean a bunch more trees for next week when John's buddy, Wayne comes over to help. One thing for sure, the trees really make a difference.
