Hi Jan, Steve, Donato And Greg:

Thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated as always. New fence arrived yesterday from Central Valley. It's almost done.

It looks great - Love the fence.  I tried using glue for the chain link fence on my Brambell's build - it don't work.  I went back and soldiered it and it work fine.  Every time I use super glue I like it less. I'm back using epoxies and soldiering for everything that is not wood.

Hi John:

Thanks for the compliment. I just don't solder. never have. So I was afraid to try it. maybe I will sometime in the future. I finished the fence today except for the gates. Will build them tomorrow hopefully.

All you need now is a diminutive  Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer......

Karl, another outstanding model. I hope you bring it to the Expo.

I still use ½" Gator board for bases for larger dioramas, but I always laminate it with a second layer of Gator board and/or a layer of ½" pink insulation foam. I found out the hard way that Gator board can warp as Tom Langford says. I have to admit I subjected it to a lot of water applying scenic materials. Now I laminate and am more judicious with the water and substitute 91 or 100% rubbing alcohol for my "wet" water. The ½" plywood is just too heavy for all the moving around of these things that I do. Not only that I can easily warp plywood as well.

I considered myself very soldering challenged until a few weeks ago, but I have done quite a bit of it lately building some turnouts and other track work using Fastracks jigs and templates for an NMRA project. It is quite fun, but as usual by the time I started to get a little bit proficient the project was over. At least now I can solder a little bit without burning my hands, clothing, parts of the model, and the kitchen counter.

At any rate nothing can beat your wooden fence. Why don't you try hand carving the Tom and Huck figures? Or can't you just send the photo to one of those 3-D printers and have them crank out a couple in HO?

Hi Donato:

Thanks appreciate your complinment as always.

That came together nicely!  One problem about having a layout that isn't going anywhere is that I never seem to get beyond 'completing a building' to 'completing a scene.'
