I really love this scene, but I'm wondering if for instance the tractor shed isn't a bit too run down , you would think they would fix that roof right away because it protects their most valuable property , the tractor. I know the broken roof looks better model wise , but still ?
I love photo's, don't we all.

I see things like that up here in NH, people park their equipment in falling apart pieces of crap! Sometimes just throwing a blue tarp over the roof!

You have to keep in mind the era that George is modeling.  It was the depression, and materials to fix the barn roof didn't make it to the top of the priority list.  And I agree with Bob, that even today there are similar barns all over the country.  Fixing the bar roof still doesn't seem to be a priority.  I worked for John Deere and they design their tractors to be parked outside. It takes a lot of sun to fade that green paint.

Every pic of the F&SM is my "favorite"... But I really love the farm because it's so different than most of the layout and it's so uniquely done. Lots of people model farms but George, as usual, had his own dusty take on a common subject.

I know the farm is where George wanted it or it was the only space for the farm.  I feel the farm would have looked a little better if the structures behind the farm were not where they were in direct view.
I remember when Karl O did this farm a few years ago to show what he could do scratch building it.  Over on the RRlines you can serch it to see the comparison to Georges farm

Keep the photo's coming.  Due to health problems I will never be able to see Georges layout & all of these great photo's serve a purpose for me to learn from

Thanks for following the thread and I'm sorry you will never be able to visit the F&SM in person.  I hope this thread does justice to George's work.  Like any layout, George has viewing points in mind when he places his structures.  Because I was photographing structures, in many cases from angles that you would never see as a visitor, please keep in mind that I may violate George's viewing points to get a shot of a structure from a particular angle.

Karl O  did a great job on his scratch build version of Burley Farm.

I thought I was the only one that had that problem. I'm getting a few more favorites ready to post.

The next few F&SM picture work sessions are going to be spent processing pictures of the Mayfield Area.  I have this process down to a routine so I process the pictures for the next section first and then post them all at once. That's why the seem to come in batches. Please stay tuned!
