A few times a year folks come into my work after cleaning out their attic or basement, with a box of train stuff. Most of the time it is complete junk ,but sometimes you get a keeper. I have a small triangle piece of land next to the ice house I was going to fill in with trees and shrubs Then I seen this sitting on the shelf.

I think I can salvage a building out of this. It has been almost put together once. Here is the inside.

Andy ....

I built one of these twenty + years ago.  They are generic kits but when weathered and planted in the ground they are fun structures.  Model Power had a series of three or different store fronts while the sides and rear were essentially the same.

What is cool about these kits is that the side configuration allows you to build it with as many stories as you like.  One two or three.

Currently those buildings are residing on one of the portable trolley railroads that I hang around with.

Fun find.  Let us see what you do with it.

Did you ever notice how many towns are named after their water towers ! ?

Thanks for looking Bob, It seems it was started and never finished. I am planning on a two story building in the shape of a triangle to fit the space I have open. The brick pattern on the wall sections looks pretty good.

I made a cardboard template for the foot print of the building.

and here are the pieces I will be using. the rest have been put away for another adventure.

Andy ...  I looked in your original photo but did not see a base panel.  These kits came with a plastic foundation piece.  It was larger than the structure so it distorts the foot print.  As I recall that base included the side walk.  I never liked the larger piece so I cut off the side walk and used only that.

Bob, I found that piece in the box but the sidewalk is to short for this build, I will be making one out of styrene.

It's good to see these cool old kits rescued.

Raymo

A lot of these plastic kits sold by Model Power, Tyco, AHM, Revell were made by Pola of Germany. These were the standard on many layouts built in the 1970's. Dave Frary might say with the right amount of weathering, these could look as good as a craftsman kit.

Raymo, maybe if someone else builds them they will look that good.

I have the four front sections washed , squared up to size, assembled and painted. I also have the two ends done to that point. Seeing that the end and back walls came from a different section I have to add about 3 feet of concrete foundation to them so they match.

and yes I know I still have to get the old name off the front, I don't know what this guy used to glue that paper on there, I am going to have to sand it to get it off. Think I might turn this into a music store. The town of Mauston never had one and maybe they should.

I have all the wall sections painted and assembled. After remeasuring the walls I found they were only about 1/8" different so I left them alone. Here is the front.

an overhead shot shows you the shape of the building. Those wall sections are nice, even without mortar or weathering you can see the distressed brick.

I also have the concrete foundation cut out. The road this sits next to is made from 1/16 styrene so I hade to make two of them and glue them together so I could get a curb and sidewalk.

This still has to be repainted and weathered.

ak-milw

I added the base and sidewalk, also a couple of air conditioners and some shades on the windows.

now on to the roof.

Andy ....

This is getting just about coooooool

Thanx
