Bar Mills Delancy St question.

Has anyone else bought this kit, and is a bit disappointed at the whole instructions thing?

Didn't buy the kit, have you gone to the website? I seem to remember that maybe there were going to be more instructions coming?

Hi Bob. Yes, I've been checking the website, and their page on Youtube. The website states the 5 special video instructions for each specific building will available in March (yes, I know it's know quite half way through the month ), but the printed basic instructions in the kit made it sound like they were already done.

Just a bit frustrating.

Announcement from Bar Mills this AM.  The first of the supplemental instruction videos was just posted.  It is for Cundy Cannery.  Next up is Goldie Electric, then Delancey Street, no timeline given.  HTH.

Jerry, thanks for the info. It's not on their website, but is on their you tube page. Still, the pits that the wait is so long.

Bob, yes, I think so. I think they wanted to have it at Springfield, so released it well before the videos.

I only bought this because it was city-centric, and fit in with my plans. If there are any future ones like this, you can bet that if I do decide to buy, it will be after I know all items needed are available.

Yes, the instructions do refer to videos posted on the web site but at the same time they point out that said videos are in the process of being produced.


That being said, the instructions are quite extensive and enough information is given to build each structure. What I'm looking forward to in the videos are the "subtle details" that the guys at Bar Mills say will be included in these video instructions.


Meanwhile , I'm wondering how to paint the "concrete" walls that have brick inserts. Do you paint the complete wall concrete color and then come back to paint the brick sections or do you paint around the bricks sections and then touch up ?

I would paint the bricks first and then the walls around the patches, because you would see pieces of concrete on the bricks but would never see brick color on the concrete , but I'm sure there are many ways to do this.

Hi Bagman,
When I've build the SRMW Wrisley paper kit, I,ve use a lot of Masking tape to cover  the brick, when I've primed the sotne in gray.
After what, I've cover the stone work to prime the brick in red oxide.
the final result as great.

when I did my Grove building I masked off the brick area above the stucco and painted the stucco and exposed brick. Then I used a small flat brush and dry brushed the exposed brick.  Worked out fine in both the N and HO versions.

Glad to know someone else bought the kit. Yes, I realize the instructions are almost enough to build all the structures, but it's those 'subtle details' I am waiting for.

Unless Bar Mills reveals some unique technique for the exposed brick, I think I will do it like rslaserkits stated. Painting the whole wall the concrete color puts the mortar in the brick work, so all that is needed to to color the bricks themselves.

In fairness, some of this waiting time I have spent thinking about how I will use the structures. As of right now, Ruby's is going to become the office for a taxi comapny, I think, with it's service garage downstairs, and a small parking area next to it. The diner will get relocated, and a different mfr.'s kit will be in it's place.

The Grove Building is on my list of kits to purchase for the street that the Delancy St. kits are being used on. Next purchases, though, are a few of Jeff's CCK Newport kits for my HOn30 project.

Yeah Jim, I like the look of these kits and I've managed to find spots for all of them on the layout.
Some will replace existing buildings whilst some real estate has been acquired by town authorities !

I've also painted walls the way Jeff Grove suggests and have had excellent results. I think you will find that it will work for you also. Post photos!
