You've been making some great progress Tom!  Looking great.

Mark,

Thanks for stopping by. I'm a little behind on the forum in relation to where the work currently is.

I understand, taking time to take and post pictures bites into the build time.  We appreciate your sharing your build with us and please strike a balance that doesn't slow you down "to much".  The layout is real looking great.

Tom, don't worry about posting.  We know you're getting ready to be on the NMRA national convention tours.  Save the pics and descriptions for after.  Not that it's ONLY FORTY DAYS AWAY or anything.   ;D ;D ;D

John,

Yes, you are correct in that the build time suffers when posting. For me it does keep my focused on the layout build thread.

Thank you for the compliment on the layout. I'm still posting but will slow down until I have something worth posting.

Jeff,

Thanks for the support but I need to post as it keep me really focused and motivated. I'm ahead of my self imposed schedule but I don't want to get behind and enter panic mode either.

Recently I added some thick ground cover/weeds between the track ballast and sand hill slopes.

I've already done one side but here is my process of adding the weeds and other growth.

I painted some white glue in the area I wanted to cover. In this case the area between the ballast and the slope.

I allowed the glue to set for several minutes and let it seek it's own level. I then randomly sprinkled on some Scenic Express  ground cover. I also let this set for several minutes.

After several minutes you can see where the ground cover starts to soak into the glue and allowed to soak in.

At this time, I then sprinkle on more ground cover of a different color and texture. This layer is applied over the still visible white glue.

After several hours, approximately five, I soak the area with matte medium. I then add a third layer of yet another green color and some more clumpy ground material.

I don't find it necessary to add more matte medium as the ground foam material will eventually soak up the matte medium.

The wet stain in the dirt is the diluted matte medium. When it dries the wet stain will disappear.

Here is how it looks when dry. Actually the next day.

I also added the final coat of paint for the Tahope River area. I'll add the water resin over this color.

I used Golden brand Fluid Acrylic Artist paint for the river. This paint is used for artist watercolor effects.

In the photo below you can see the two colors I used and blended for the water color.

Phthalo Blue and Sap Green Hue were the colors I chose. I used these same two colors for the Suwannee River Basin area except I didn't use the Yellow Ochre and Burnt Sienna in this, the Tahope River.

Here is how it looks after drying. The river looks much brighter than it actually is. I lighted it so you can see the color. I will be much darker when the resin water is added.

I have some cypress trees and some dead logs to go in prior to adding the water.
